I wouldn’t necessarily call the late model (the US-spec even less so) Karmann Ghia a beautiful car. Earlier 2nd gen models are a different story.

They’re not ugly, but there is an awkwardness to the proportions, and the front nostrils add to the overall unease of the design, much like Teslas’ “grilles”. There’s also too many Beetle elements once your brain realizes that’s what they are, especially the roof, windows, headlights, and front turn signals - though I adore the placement being the literal corners of the front.
It’s certainly not the prettiest design he’s reviewed either, since he’s done the Aston Martin Vantage and the Mazda RX-7.
Love the color, and the bold choice of the single main body panel.

My first car was a ‘66. I’m partial to the skinnier bumpers, tail lights, and front indicators, but they’re all fundamentally beautiful. Mine was a rusted heap when I bought it and only got worse, but I never minded.
