I wonder how often those other auto sites/shows/magazines damage/crash a car and just don’t say anything about it publicly

That’s Top Gear though, the destruction is part of the entertainment. I’m taking the more “serious” entities like Motor Trend, Road and Track, TTAC, TheSmokingTire, etc. You can’t tell me none of them have binned a car.

Except it was. Not the actual destruction of a car itself, that was a tragedy. But the way they revealed it to the world, that was entertainment. The shocked sounds of the audience, the apologetic but still funny quips from the boys, that was entertainment and it worked well for them. It played to their rebellious, haphazard, anything-can-happen image and it helped stoke the fire (pun!) of people talking about them and the show (look at us, we’re still talking about it).
