Yesterday on a drive home on an Ohio state route which is two lanes there was a long wait in traffic due to several trains crossing. For some reason it was way longer than normal. There are no other reasonable alternate routes for this section of my daily drive so I’m stuck there. It took forever to get up to a side road that goes to a local park and a few houses. I was still 300 ft from the tracks. There were likely 60-80 cars behind me on the main road but people trying to be courteous were letting in a bunch of cars out of the side park road instead of moving ahead. The result of this was the backup behind me was going all the way back to an intersection with a light. I had just inched my way through that junction where everyone was on the verge of road rage because of the gridlock. I know that some dimwits were trying to be nice to let those park road people on the main road but as a result it was causing issues beyond what they could fathom. I just wish they could have looked in the rearview mirror to see the results of their actions. End of rant. I could have titled this post “20 minutes to drive 800 feet”.

We have a similar problem with a local waterpark. They hire a police officer to run traffic, but the waterpark entrance is near a major intersection which is near a freeway exit which is at the confluence of four major routes. If the officer doesn’t do it right, traffic backs up onto the freeway in both directions.

I hate this intersection.

I can so relate to this. We have the Summit County fairgrounds maybe 300 feet from the same intersection I was talking about in the post. The police directing traffic there can’t see all the results of them directing traffic because of two hills in one direction towards those railroad tracks. Its a nightmare to get past the place when they hold events there.

I hate when this happens. Be courteous when you can, but don’t yield right of way to someone else. It usually causes more problems than it fixes. Seen more than one accident where someone trying to be nice yielded right of way to another car just so they can get creamed by someone else who kept theirs.

Ugh, would also be the sound when someone tries to edge a left turn into traffic between cars without being able to see the traffic approaching from the right. Ugh is the sound when the seat belt snags a person from flying across the console when a car hits the passenger side. Ugh is what the drivers who waved that person into traffic say as they drive away not wanting to be involved in the accident they were partially responsible for. Have seen that Ugh twice in past year on my commute.

I blocked someone who was trying to inch their way across traffic on a four-lane road. The guy behind me let her through. As soon as he did, she got hit by someone going much faster in the right lane. I’m just glad it wasn’t hard enough for her to slide into the back of my truck.

Why she didn’t just turn right and make her way around the block, I’ll never know.

Thats one of my biggest peeves about drivers. They try to be courteous and instead cause more issues than if they were just being selfish. Also, if you have the right-of-way, please for the love of all who is holy to you, TAKE IT!!!!

One of my friends put it this way “people shouldn’t try to take traffic management into their own hands”.

I guess I never realized traffic on that road was that bad. My travel is typically perpendicular to that road...though I have been caught in a few of the traffic jams from the railroad crossing.

Far worse at times lately. I think the recent Portage Trail highway ramp closure on Rte 8 in Cuyahoga Falls is bringing peoples commutes through there. There were cars yesterday from the fairgrounds area all the way into the Stow instersection at stopped in both directions and whatever distance it went in the Falls.

I didn’t even know that exit was closed. Weird, considering I drive under it often enough.

A coworker lives in Munroe Falls, sort of in the park area, and makes his commute through some of the residential neighborhoods on the west side of Kent. Probably out of the way for you, but it’s a thought. Maybe up 261?

Yep, one day I went all the way to Kent on 261 and then looped back through Stow on North River Rd.
