I took a long walk at lunch today, and saw a fair number of interesting cars - not pictured is a VW Golf with giant rims and a sticker in the rear window that says ‘send nudes’.
‘67 Impala SS - 327 fender flags, and two drip pans underneath the engine.
E39 M5 just randomly street parked in a residential neighborhood. Looked pretty nice, too
‘62 Pontiac being loaded onto a flatbed - clearly a roller, no motor- and a ‘70 Cutlass
Twins!
Not sure what the door says — but very cool truck.
W211 in the driveway of a house I could never live in - didn’t have the nerve to take the picture right in front.

Starred for that gorgeous Impala.

That’s why it’s first! The drip pans under the car are concerning, but yes, it’s gorgeous, and an SS, too.

It’s not mine, so it’s not concerning at all.

True, but I’d be happy to own it, drips and all—

I always thought the rear of the ‘67 Impala looked like it went on about 2 feet further than it should.

I like the proportions of the 65-66 cars better, for sure. They really started to get big in 67-68- and all hell broke loose in 1971. But I still like the ‘67 anyways—

I wonder if this is the same M5

I know it’s a Detroit link, but the cars actually in Chicago.

Hmmm, interesting - I suspect that they’re different cars, actually, if the pictures are recent. The one I took a picture of has that blue/red M grille bar thing (which I hate on a black car), and has some sort of car club sticker on the rear quarter window. Otherwise, they could be twins, and the neighborhood yours is in isn’t far from where I saw mine (my pic was taken a bit further northwest).

I noticed after I posted that the one I linked has a euro headlight lens. The one you took a pic of has the amber turn signal.

Weird, because the car you linked *is* very close to mine, and they are quite similar, except for these minor details. They’re not that common anymore—

Love that Impala. I particularly like the wheels. Beautiful. I’ve always been a Cutlass fan, too.

Yeah, I like both, and that year Impala looks best in SS trim. Back in HS, quite a few people had Cutlasses from that generation, so seeing one brings back memories.
I was amazed at how many old cars I saw on just a 1 hour walk around that neighborhood that day. There were a couple more that I didn’t get good pictures of, too. I walk around often at lunch, but usually don’t walk around that neighborhood, for various reasons. I wish I had gotten a better look at the Pontiac, but it was blocked by the flatbed, and they were busy loading it.

Welcome to Chicago.

Ha! But not for the reasons you might think. It’s a very nice, safe neighborhood. It’s partly because I have to cross a busy street, so it’s a bit of a pain, but also largely because of the site where that Mercedes sits.
The address there *used* to be 8213 W. Summerdale, where this clown used to live. Different house, different address (it’s now 8215), but it still creeps me out.

“Clown.” LOL. I was visiting my mom in Sandwich when they were carting the bodies out of the house. I remember that very well.

Christmas 1978. I was 10, and living in Mt. Prospect - his last victim (the one that got him caught) was from Des Plaines, right next to my hometown. I remember it pretty vividly, as well.
