When I was a child, I distinctly remember three things foisted upon me: American Pie, Janis Joplin's (and Big Brother and the Holding Company's) Cheap Thrills, and Joe Cocker.

I hate American Pie with the fire of a thousand suns and I wish nothing but pain and suffering upon it. I hope nothing for it but the worst

But damn, if Piece of my Heart isn’t great.

Did you just get a contact high from whatever she was fucked up on? Because I just did.

American Pie is grossly overrated, Joe Coker is okay, I guess, but Janis is fucking awesome.

I’ll give Cocker credit for doing a good Beatles cover when doing a good Beatles cover is not something that is possible.

Joe Cocker was great when he was still working with Leon Russell. After that he got schmaltzy.

I can recall Janis playing on the stereo when my older sister had a series of parties while my parents were in the Windward Isles. Seemed like she invited every hippy from campus. I think that was the first night I heard Surrealistic Pillow and was introduced to the Doors. I sat upstairs and listened to all the conversations which were as you would for that time expect were really far out. I could barely breath.

Wasn’t into McLean, loved Janis and Cockers early work. His Woodstock material was fantastic.

I only know McLean as that person who makes me change the station and then change it ten times lore because that fucking song never ends

For sure it engulfed me into the music culture of the time. I may listen to most genres of the past half a century but those times are a favorite. Was just listening to Procol Harum in the car today. The Doors were awesome and always will be a favorite. Was also heavy into The Animals.

Haha, then you need to listen to this. Do you know The Electric Prunes? Talking about a trip.

God, that and Herdy Gerdy Man are the only songs that make me feel like dying. I don’t know that I ever enjoyed either not high, but I enjoyed both REALLY high

Cocker has his good songs, and it is possible to cover the Beatles, but not easy, and you have to choose your song wisely.

Cry Baby, Cry is possibly my favorite Beatles song, so this worked out in a weird way, even though it’s not a cover

The first time I listened to

Kinja'd!!!

(England 1970)

I was well and truly wrecked

A horrible mistake that I was extremely lucky to have survived
