But no.
“Hey buddy, cool car! Is that an Alfa Romero?”
I don’t get what it is, but probably half the people who say “Alfa Romeo” when they are talking about my car add an extra ‘r’ in there for no reason I can figure out. I would even understand if they mispronounced it Romeo like Romeo & Juliet, but this I don’t get. And as if that weren’t enough of the mispronunciation thing, they often then proceed to tell me it “looks kinda like a Porsh.”
I suppose that should be seen as a compliment, and apart from the pronunciation they aren’t entirely wrong.
Also, I’ve had more random stranger (3 or 4) tell me my car looks like a James Bond car than I have had make any connection to The Graduate (0 people).

Almost every day on my way home I pass a guy with one of these. His license plate says “ALFAMALE.”
Makes me laugh every time.

This reminds me of a casino around here called the Lumiere. It’s amazing how many people throw in an unnecessary ‘n’ and call it something that sounds like lumineer, usually the people who can least afford to be spending their days in a casino...

I’ve never heard anyone mispronounce Audi before, and most people know how to say ‘Alfa Romeo’ on my side of the pond.
On the internet though… have you seen anyone spell it ‘Alpha Romeo’ yet? Bonus points if they get the model name confused.

I think a few times.
And people over here like to pronounce it “odd-ee”

My Dad’s family had a Berlina back in the 70's. Being in Albuquerque, they jokingly New Mexicanized the name to Alfred Romero, which is now how I think of the name every time I see it. My Dad said he remembers it as a high school kid being as wonderful when it worked and as unreliable as one would expect a 70's Italian car to be. Asking my Grandmother about that car in the 90's, she described it as “Terrible. It never ran even when it was brand new...”

So what were the percentage of people who say “OWDEE” versus “AWWDEE” and who is even really right? Also on the same note the people who say “NEESAHN” versus “NIHSAHN” for Nissan. I find it interesting how these things get pronounced differently.

Where do they put the extra r ? Alfra? Romero?
For years I’ve been telling my wife it’s Ow-dee not Aw-dee. Finally, we were at the Audi dealership down the street a few weeks ago doing some preliminary shopping and everyone there said Ow-dee. She finally realized I was right and admitted as much.
Now, if I could only get her to say orange instead of ornge.

Yes, they put the R to make it “Romero”

I missed that at the top. You should name your car George, George Romero.

I think people say Aw-di instead of Ow-di because they think it’s the more accurate pronunciation, like Porsh-uh instead of Porsh.
Personally say Ow-di and Porsh-uh.

Correct them to a worse mispronunciation.
“Yea, its an Alfi Bromayo. It’s pretty awesome.”

Some people are just oblivious to the things they are saying. I work at a Cenex gas station and too many people call it a Cintex.
Working at a Ford, Chrysler dealership 99% of people didn’t know if they wanted an Escape, Edge, Explorer, or Expedition. I even had one lady ask if we had and Comanchees, when she wanted a Grand Cherokee, and she ended up actually buying a Compass.

A friend of mine very recently asked if I would like to come take a look at his brand new Subaru Forester. He had actually purchased a Subaru crosstek.

Wow, it’s bad enough not not know before you buy, but not knowing the name of the car you just purchased is pretty sad.
Althought that’s one I can understand the confusion on. I know a lady who recently replaced her first gen Forester with a 2016, and she’s complained a few times that it’s too fancy and big. In my head I’m like “you should have bought a Crosstrek, because it’s exactly the same size as your old Fozzie.”

Either way its best to say AUDI, Assholes Usually Drive It!
