First installment of photos from the camping trip. I’ll start with what’s on my phone since I won’t unpack my camera until later.
A museum in a garden shed. For pencil sharpeners!
My understanding of the backstory is that after Mr Johnson retired he was driving his wife nuts. She told him to find a hobby, and he somehow ended out collecting pencil sharpeners. The shed and collection were on display on his property until he died. Since then it’s been moved to the grounds of one of the areas visitor centers. Sadly the lighting inside didn’t work out for any close ups. The collection includes 3749 pencil sharpeners.

The fact that there’s only one should be a little more reassuring.

I’m happy to visit any free, strange roadside attraction personally.

Oh I know that feel. Perhaps Im just a little jaded after visiting 3.2 million dollars of “art” in the desert.

Yeah, my rule of thumb is never go out of your way because they’re rarely worth the effort. We were stopping at the visitors center anyway, and it was right there.

I thought it was fun and totally worth the diversion, but i mean...3.2 million for stacked rocks? A pencil sharpener museum? Are we living up to our potential as people?
