"DaftRyosuke - So Long and Thanks for All the Fish!" (daft-ryosuke)

Earlier I posted up a thread on my group on Facebook saying that I believed the Alpine A110 was the best looking French car. Some agreed, others did not. Here were some alternate opinions:
The Bugatti Type 57
The Citroen SM
The Renault Twingo
The Bugatti Chiron
So obviously it’s a hot debate. What does Oppo think?

As much as I love the A110, I don’t think I can argue with the SM

Nah you’re correct, the A110 is the best...

I don’t think it’s necessarily the best looking, but the CD Panhard LM64 appeals to me:
Also, where’s the DS (although I feel like it should be... longer, the back end cuts off too early)?

How is this a hot debate? It’s clearly the A110.
Also, I think the Type 57 and the Chiron are not really good looking cars.

While it is a really nice design, I don’t think the A110 is the best. We like it because of how it looks to some extend, but I feel the main appeal is the racing heritage. The pre war Bugattis are all amazing but not necessarily the best looking ones. My pick would be the Panhard 24ct with a honorable mention to the SM.

That A110 is not exactly stock. Those are big Group 4 flares. They change a lot the general outline of the car (particularly when seen from the front, from above or from the rear). Some people find appealing the purity of the simpler car, others may feel attracted by the butch looks of the competition version.
Similarly... Bugatti 57? There are so many different ones! The picture shows Ralph Lauren’s famous 57 SC Atlantic. But then you have the Galibier, the Ventoux, the Stelvio, the Aérolithe (sort of the first Atlantic), the Atalante... there are bodies by Bugatti themselves and Gangloff (the “stock” ones), but also bespoke jobs also by Gangloff, or by Vanvooren, or by Letourneur et Marchand, or by Saoutchik, or by Corsica, or by Graber (and the list goes on and on).
Many may dislike Ralph Lauren’s Atlantic but love the more restrained looks of one coupé made by James Young (or vice versa).
Coming back to earth (so to speak) I always found Chapron’s DS
Décapotable
extremely seductive, but that is one of many.

I love the Cactus. It’s smaller than you think, though, not much more space inside than in my Clio.

Only one possible answer to this question, and nobody got it right for now.
The most beautiful french car ever made is the Peugeot 402 Darl’Mat:

If you’re just lookin at classics, the A110 and SM take the cake. As far as modern cars go though...
