The carnage of this wreck is incredible. And the guy is expected to survive. He absolutely could’ve killed someone.

Has to be an STI right? I would think that’s the only Subaru capable of 140mph.

Looks like a BRZ

I trust that they’re using more than just the speedometer reading to verify vehicle speed? According to the instrument cluster, the engine was spinning backwards at about 1000RPM!

Wouldn’t that defy the laws of physics?

It was a BRZ. Top speed is supposedly 143, but it must take a century to get there.

140MPH isn’t actually that hard for most modern vehicles to hit. But iirc Subaru’s usually get limited at 185kph/115MPH, so yeah probably a WRX/STI or BRZ.

Kinda what I was thinking, too. Pretty good chance getting ripped from the dashboard and flung however far, then skidding across the concrete might’ve had an impact (pun intended) on the speedo readout.
Either that, or it was a Crosstrek. The guy started driving Tuesday morning and got up to 143 around 3am Friday.

Nah, standard procedure following an accident is look for the highest possible trace of a speed reading and blame the accident on that.
That being said based on the damage that reading is probably not far off in this case. The cause? Doubt it.

You would think, but

Yeah I have my doubts about his speed. But he was probably well over 100.

I have my doubts he made it to 140 mph. But he was obviously well over 100.

when i had the WRX I tried doing the math and came out to a theoretic top speed of 160 based on redline. I wouldn’t be surprised in a WRX could do 140.

Thats not a BRZ dashboard
