Passengers who were booked on an easyJet flight from Nice, France to Luton, outside London, endured a 13-hour delay for mechanical issues, while other easyJet flights to Luton were taking off on schedule. A passenger carrying a baby approached a customer service agent for a company called Samsic, a private company that contracts passenger assistance services. It’s unclear what happened next. The man waved a cellphone, the agent knocked it away, the man pushed the agent, the agent punched the man in the face. Eventually, the plane left for Luton, with the man and his baby on board. easyJet, who were quick to point out that the Samsic agent was not on their payroll, is investigating.

I believe this. I don’t mind flying EasyJet, it’s pretty a pretty standard bottom of the barrel European budget airline, the cabin crew is nice, and customer service is helpful once you can finally get through to someone. But holy shit do they have the meanest, sociopathic, bastard airport employees and they’re such a mess.

you would think at this point the airlines would have hourly reminders sent out to their employees to not do this sort of shit.

It’s worth reiterating that this guy was not an easyJet employee. But the stranded passengers tell a story of incompetence by easyJet staff, particularly a complete lack of communication and contradicting information. I guess it’s one of those situations where if it goes fine it’s fine, but if it goes bad, it’s horrible.

My worst experience with them was that they changed the gate for my flight to Edinburgh from Madrid, by mistake , and then didn’t fix the board or the gate signs until about 10 minutes after boarding was supposed begin, and absolutely no one had any information about the actual gate.

Need to star this more than once. No one who randomly assaults a stranger is really happy inside.

Meh. On one hand, you shouldn’t punch people. On the other, some people are assholes and need to be punched.
Regardless, the people working the gate at the airport usually have zero control over the timing of the flight. Yelling at them will not get the plane ready any faster. In fact, yelling at airport employees will usually do nothing to improve the situation you are yelling about, and only make it worse.

Sure, some people need to be punched, but it’s not your job as a gate agent to punch them. EasyJet did a horrible job of communicating the situation to the passengers. Tempers were frayed by the 13th hour. That doesn’t justify any of this, but good communications can go a long way to defusing potentially ugly situations.

Agreed, the situation was easily preventable.
