day 1 of the week without family leaves my impreza looking thusly

Why not build the impreza?

cause headgaskets and ring lands

High revving built civics are known for not going through rings or headgaskets or generally grenadeing

i was referring to why he wont build the impreza

Sorry I realize i may have come off as rude. My point was that building any motor tend to lead to premature gasket failures and generally wearing the motor out sooner. So building an impreza motor would have similar risks to running a built Civic motor

gotcha. my bad as well. I was trying to joke about subaru headgaskets and ringlands as the known failure points for early to mid 2000's motors

My vision is of a supercharged 2.0L DOHC EK coupe.

D16s are the best! I’m working on a D16Y8 vitera build to swap into my daily . It has a boosted stock d16y7 at the moment.

Got room to park a 2nd car? Why not get both? Old Civics aren’t that expensive.
Granted, making payments on a DD cuts out a lot of money for the project car, but it also means you can leave your project car undrivable for longer periods of time while you save up or collect parts.

I’ve had two cars before, and attempted to make one a project and the other a daily. I just cant resist. The daily MUST have wheels, and be lower and and and... and before you know it there are two project cars and neither is getting the money spent on it

I approve your vision.
I LOVE the EL front end, but had the bumper. If I had the time and talent I would vote for EL headlights (hood, grill and fenders), and then combine the EL’s bumper with an 99/00 EK bumper to make:
(without the massive aftermarket lip)

turbo AND you kept the A/C, and I see cruise control. I like your style!
so many ditch the A/C to make the turbo install easy, and it’s such a waste!

Yeah, it takes a bit of willpower to keep one stock (or near stock), but the freedom it gives you to completely rip apart the project is worth it.
I won’t even suggest getting an already modified car as a daily driver, they tend to be a bit finicky and needing of parts and more mods just to keep them running right. I’ve already spent too much time and money on my LGT to really consider it reliable.

I considered briefly getting something just awful for my daily. something automatic, and gutless, and dull like a Chevy Aveo.
but... then of course I googled “aveo modified” and they can actually look good. And I figured there wasnt a car out there I wouldn’t get an itch to do something to

Life’s too short to drive a horrible car, even for noble reasons.
There’s always the option of finding a DD that is really cheap to buy and modify, something like a non-Mustang Fox or a 90s civic.
Ya know, it might be neat to share parts between the project and DD, and it might make you slightly less interested in modding the DD if the project is so similar.

Thanks! It was a pain trying to get it to fit with the AC, but I was able to make it work. I had to learn how to weld so I could make a custom o2 housing that cleared the AC compressor. I did have to remove the AC condenser fan to make room but that’s only an issue if I’m sitting still for to long. There is enough airflow when I’m moving to compensate for the missing fan.

a/c without a condenser fan is better than no a/c.
and a turbo should help you go fast enough to keep the air condensing :D

any room for a pusher fan on the front side? Above the intercooler?

I might be able to fit a low profile fan in there but so far I’ve been able to deal with not having one. I’m planning on building a spare motor to handle ~300 whp so any extra fun money is being saved for that.

Nice. Go for the ZC.. Because nothing says awesome like a DOHC D-series

That would look so sharp without that absurd lip.

agreed.
i think the el headlights are aggressive and awesome.
the el bumper is boring and accord.
el headlights, ek bumper, awesome!
