-It’s only 2 feet longer and 5 inches wider than the Azera, but actually offers visibility. The Suburban being a fullsize SUV with a big block, 3rd seat, and massive amounts of storage behind that third seat.
-It’s less than an inch taller than my Dad’s old 2WD Ram 1500, while having much more ground clearance.
-Even though my Dad’s Ram was the shortest possible version, it was only a foot shorter.
-The Suburban is an inch narrower than the Ram.
-If we forget about the Vibe, the Suburban displaces more than the 4Runner, FiST, and Azera combined. That said, the FiST has a better torque per pound average, coming in at around 9 pounds per lb ft vs. 13.
-Even though it weighs a full 1200 pounds more than the Ram, it is much more nimble because Chevy thought it would be a good idea for it to be less easy to flip over, so it has competent sway bars.
-The Azera is far more difficult to drive, due to lack of visibility and any semblance of road feel.

[Raises hand]
Yes, hi. I’m sorry, I’ve read your posts but I missed as to the motivation for this purchase. Your dad’s new ass-hauler?

We have camper, and the little Ram V6 pulls less than the 4Runner, which maxes out at about 2.5 tons less than the camper. We wanted something to pull 8k pounds with ease.

Well certainly an 8.1L-powered Suburban will do that! I also had no idea that such a bigly Vortec existed before your posts.

Yep, one last, massive hoorah for the Chevy Big block.

I am very jealous of this purchase.

It’s great, other than the little trans issue we still need to figure out. As someone with a lot of experience with both, I feel sorry for any sucker who traded up for a GMT900.

I love my GMT800. Unfortunately mine only has the 4.8, and therefore only has a 5700 pound tow rating, but it’s been fantastically reliable.

I don’t mind the 4.8. One would honestly go quite well in the 4Runner.

It’s a good motor for sure. I just wish I had more power and could tow a bigger camper. But the fact that it has a 4.8 is almost certainly the reason I was able to buy a brand new crew cab truck for under $22k out the door. Nobody else wanted it. I was all set to buy a regular cab truck (I was single at the time), but this crew cab was only $2k more. It’s paid dividends, and now serves faithfully as both tow rig and family hauler.
