Any thoughts on a new “left over” 2016 Acura ILX for the wifey? Good deal on it. Spent the last couple days pouring through consumer reports etc. Shilili likes a smaller car, but the 2017 honda sport hatch we drove was a step down in many ways from the 04 Tl we’ll be trading. I realize the new civic and ILX are the same basic chassis, but the ILX was a cut above with the k24z and dct trans let alone the interior and better looks. thinking some choice type-r chassis parts might swap over as well at some point

Is the Accord to big for her? I think a 2015 Accord in the right trim is definitely on the TL’s level.

My worry is that after the new car feeling disappears in 3 months will you still want the car? Consumer Reports has found it to be the least satisfying vehicle to own overall before and even after the refresh. That means more regular consumers have regretted the purchase of an ILX than Compass, Dart, and pretty much all cheap FCA cars which dominated the list.

I think a turbo Buick Regal would feel more like your TL anyways.

I thought this ILX was still on the last generation Civic platform, not the new Civic platform.

That said, I really like the ILX. It’s on CR’s list of least satisfying vehicles, but I have to imagine that if you realize it’s just a prettier Civic Si, you know exactly what you’re getting into and there’s less chance of disappointment.

I’m in the camp of “it’s a fancy civic”. I think most people who regretted it on CR thought they were getting more. In my opinion it’s like the GLA/CLA where you’re not getting a “real” Mercedes. In this case you’re not getting a “real” Acura. If you go into it thinking you’re driving a top spec Civic you won’t mind the road noise or lack of luxury people associate with Acura.

As with all car purchases, get seat time in it. As much as you can. Drive it on different roads at different speeds. When I was shopping the Mazda guy had me drive all over but we didn’t go on the highway quite as much as I’d like. The Ford guy (awful dude anyway) just had me go on a short run around on some back roads but did encourage me to “drive as fast as I want because he knows cops”.

Thanks for the input all. And thanks to For Michigan for pointing out it the ILX is 9th Gen Civic chassis instead of the newest 2016 10th gen.

I completely agree with the 1 out of 5 “would do it again” score if I spent $28-35K on the thing and later found out it was an older gen Civic. In this case, I think it will cost the same $22k (the Civic Sport hatch we drove).

The Accord/Verano/Optima/Camry SE are competitive. I did ping a Buick dealer with two turbo fwd Buick Regal sport’s on the lot that lists at the same $28k the ILX did.

Apparently the optional electronics killed the reliability rating on the Civic and Ilx. That 201hp and DCT may fix some holes and I see that Progress makes a 20mm rear sway for it :)

....And I can’t even comment on the Earth Dreams engine name.

I’ll keep you posted. If we get it one or the other, I’ll be doing an auto-x to see how it does.

I pinged the Buick dealer about two leftover Buick Regal sport turbo fwd they have left. They are asking $29. I’ll see how close they will get to $22k
