Yeah, no one cared about the latest generation, but I had two Nanos (well, technically three, but one was stolen and later replaced by the exact same model so it doesn’t count), and it played music without any big problems. I’ll miss the relative simplicity of it compared to using a phone or streaming. So long, old tech.

I think the iPod itself isn’t long for this world.

i use my current gen (or latest gen) nano about 40 hours a week. It’s great not having to carry my phone while working out, mowing the lawn and such. Plus it has bluetooth so it works with my Anker buds.

I don’t know if they’d ever get rid of the touch, but I have a feeling you’re probably right.

Next version will just be “iPhone Wifi Edition” because why not?

Considering the touch is basically just an iPhone with some minor changes, I can’t see why they would get rid of it as long as they make the iPhone.

Save on costs, maybe.

The iPod touch actually shares very few parts with the current iPhone. I wouldn’t be surprised to see them move the iPod Touch into the case of the current iPhone to create as many shared parts as possible in the future.

I thought it was basically a lighter/thinner version of the iPhone SE without the slot for the ear speaker.

Nope, almost completely unique. The iPod Touch uses its own case, its own processor, its own motherboard, its own battery, its own cameras, its own display glass (though the LCD itself is shared with the SE). The design dates back to 2012 when the iPod Touch was still a big product to Apple and the only change it has gotten is that they updated the processor a few years back.

I wonder who’s going to take the market of music players that work for exercise...my bet is FitBit.
I still use my 160GB iPod classic, but now that 128GB microSDs are fairly cheap, I have to concede that you don’t need a discrete device anymore, even for large libraries. The Shuffle was so convenient for running, though...

I have a number of iPods, ranging from an original 5GB unit to the current Nano. The nano was found on eBay, mistakenly listed as a mini, and I was the only bidder at $40. It’s a great little unit, but I can see why the popularity of these things has declined. There’s probably still a market for them, but it’s not what it once was and I can understand the logic behind this move.
Now if I can just get the battery replaced in my 6th gen unit I’ll be quite happy. There’s something to be said for one that can be worn as a watch.

I have a click-wheel iPod in my van that plays through the radio. It’s the second one, since the first was stolen. Now that was a useful invention. I wish they still made them. There’s something to be said about a purpose-built device that does its job very well. Like the A-10.

Sad day, I’m an Apple fan boy admittedly.

Especially with 128GB iPhones. No need for the iPods capacity anymore. Although I still have a second or third gen iPod that’s kicking around in my glovebox. Works fine still.
