And it’s going great! Touring on a motorcycle has it’s ups and downs, but being on the road has been very freeing. Starting in Michigan, I have traveled across the East Coast and all the way down south to Key West. Now I am in Louisiana and headed towards California. Thinking about getting a job there, I’m missing being able to go to a job and drive a car, as weird as that sounds. No a/c on my bike!
If you want to follow along, I try to post semi-regular updates with pictures and videos on motocampingtheus.com

What part of Louisiana are you in? Down south along I-10?

I sure am! Sitting at a Starbucks in Lafayette right now, going to camp on the beach by Creole tonight.

Just missed you! I’m in Baton Rouge. How’d you like the bridges?

Ehhh. There’s a lot of bridges in Texas so far too, and they’re bigger haha

As a Texas native, I’d like to say the bridges are bigger, but they only seem bigger. You may not have noticed, but you crossed the Atchafalaya Basin bridge, which is, at 18.2 miles long, the third longest bridge in the U.S. You missed an opportunity to cross the longest bridge in the world, the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway. I’ve lived here 10 years and still haven’t made that drive.
In Baton Rouge, you crossed the Horace Wilkinson Bridge, the highest bridge over the Mississippi River. The only bridge in Texas with a higher clearance is the Rainbow Bridge and it only does it by two feet.
That’s not bad for a state with 1/6 the population, 1/6 the area, and whose state DOT budget wouldn’t cover the money TxDOT earmarked just for consultants.
Thanks for visiting anyway. On a more serious note, the heat starts getting bad once you pass into hill country. I dang near killed myself on a ride between Galveston and Austin. Heat exhaustion isn’t any fun.

Good to hear, because that’s my drive today, Galveston to Austin! Looking forward to it now! It’s worse at night in my tent because there’s no moving air to keep me cool.

Watch the construction on 290. Leave early to avoid the heat and the traffic.

Ehh it wasn’t bad. Stopped at a dealership to get a new headlight bulb and ended up sticking around there for too long, didn’t get on the road until after 11 so I was out in the heat of it! I didn’t mind it too much though. As long as it cools down at night I’m all right.

It’s going to get hotter as you go west. Good luck, stay cool, and keep posting!

That’s true! So far I’m liking it better than Florida. I’d rather have a hundred degree dry day than a ninety degree muggy day with mosquitoes everywhere. I’m actually headed a bit North next up to Denver and then back down to So Cal.

That’s a wise move. The roads are more interesting up there anyway.
I used to commute along the coast near Galveston. When I got to work in the morning, I had to clean a layer of gray goo off the brow of my helmet where the wind hit it. I can’t imagine what I would have looked like if I didn’t have a full windscreen.
