Here’s the thing - removing a small number of cars from the road does vastly improve traffic. However, congestion charges are fracking devil. Look at London. It’s a traffic nightmare and has awful congestion charges. When demand for entering the city (like London or San Francisco), outweighs public transit’s ability to cope, people get into their cars anyways. Then you disproportionately hit the working class. Everyone is still stuck in traffic and now they’re paying out the butt for it.

They’ve installed metering on the Bay Bridge and every ramp on i80. They’ve put congestion charges on the Bay Bridge. Has it gotten any better? Hellllllll no. Does it cost more? Helllllll yes. Does public transit work here? Not really. I mean, it does if you close enough (most don’t) and don’t mind showering on both ends of your commute (it’s disgusting).

All true, but also, cities like SF aren’t the rule.

I’m more interested in the part about intersections without lights.

True, but it’s somewhere between #1 and #3 worst in the US and it’s where I live.

For the record. I just want to say that I-5 in Tacoma/Seattle is waaaay worse than the Katy freeway.
