Oppo - I am looking at buying a 2011 Tacoma T/X Pro access cab. Is there anything I need to look out for or any reason to stay away?

First question, where? Rust can be evil depending on location. Otherwise, enjoy it. Bullet proof, wonderful truck. I’m 2 and a half years into my 2015 and have no regrets, and no intention to sell it. I can’t think of any reason to not recommend a Tacoma.

Supposedly 2011 saw a different frame MFG after Dana botched the earlier ones, but I’d still check the frame for rust. I think there’s an active service campaign for replacing the leaf springs on the 2011 too.
Don’t get too caught up in the hype- It can still fail and break like everything else ESPECIALLY if has not been properly maintained. So don’t pay $45k for a 6 year old Taco with 200k miles on the odometer.

You might be better off buying a brand new one. They hold their value ridiculously well and you can get exactly what you want.

Compare used price to new price, often you can get a new one for <30k with stupid low financing versus putting down 24k on a truck that has 90,000 miles on it and a higher interest rate on the loan.

Please buy a new one. A new base model has more features than an older one (backup camera, etc.) and can probably be purchased with a good TrueCar discount.

Buy a different truck. Honestly. I even own one. The resale is ridiculous. You get more truck for your money elsewhere.

You can also upgrade easily because they don’t depreciate as much.
Buy new, sell after a year for like 5 grand less, get the next year model.

Because of how high their residual values are, I’d go new Taco or used Colorado.

Other than some dash rattles and cheap plastics, it’s been pretty good.

Sit in one first to make sure you are comfortable with the seating position.

It’s in the southeast but from IL so a bit of surface rust. Nothing too bad though. I am aware of the frame issues.

I’m pretty short so it works for me.

I know. It’s rather unfortunate they’re so much better than rangers.

This one is a pretty good deal and fully optioned. I like the body style more too.

After being back in the northeast the last couple of weeks, man, the rust there is just terrible, and not just on frames. I don’t think I’d buy anything that lived there anymore.

They are. I do like my dads 2010 ranger though

If it’s a good deal, please go for it. I was getting scarred by 2007 Tacomas with 40,000 miles that were still $22,000 yesterday.
