Is the Crossfire coach built in that it’s basically a Mercedes with a different body?

The difference is that Mercedes assembled the SLK in its own factories and had Karmann assemble the Crossfire.

Weird when it already had an assembly line for the chassis and everything. But since Crossfire sales tanked, it was a smart move.

2 red, coachbuilt, 2-seaters, that sold about as well as a pile of #2

Like great artists, they weren’t understood in their time.

Mercedes was pretty stuck up about the merger and did not want to touch Chrysler product. They probably did not want Chrysler cars to be built in their factory.

I believe that one of these is a beautifully designed and crafted machine with a fine engine and loads of luxury.

I believe that one of these is an ugly pile of dogshit with an anemic engine built at its company’s lowest point.

Care to figure out which is which?

We’ll I don’t think either is beautifully crafted and you could say both we’re made at the company’s low point. So ¯\_()_/¯

I’d say Cadillac was doing pretty strong around the time. The FWD Devilles and Broughams were selling pretty well.

So does that imply the Allante the beautifully crafted machine with its “fine” engine that takes it 10 seconds to get to 60? Where as the Crossfire has an “anemic” engine that takes it 6.5 seconds to get to 60?
