Unless that section up to Sprucedale is really fun, you might want to axe that. Looks like you could get from Rosseau to Parry Sound a lot more quickly going 141 to 400 and still have had a lot of fun on the southern section.

On the first “fun way” trip I took with the kids, I learned that years of going the “boring way” had not prepared them for the twisties. Even though I wasn’t pushing any boundaries in an SUV, the constant movements left and right made both of them queasy. We had to stop for a dose of dramamine so they could finish the trip without losing their breakfast.

Lesson learned.

I’ve driven it before, it is fantastic. The 518 is amazing. I also enjoy the 141. There are so many good roads up there.

Fun way 270kms, & 3.5-4 hours. Boring way is 135kms & 1.5hr.

Fuck the 400. If there’s an alternate route it should be taken. Even if that alternate route is slower, it’s almost always less irritating. Unless you’re traveling early in the morning and your only concern of any kind is to get there as quickly as possible, it’s a no-brainer.

With that being said, if Parry Sound was my destination I’d probably do what you said... based purely on the fact that I’m too cheap to pay for gas when there is an actual objective in mind and the difference is that big.

You make me jealous. I had one taste of Southwood Road... in the backseat of a minivan... and I desperately want to go up there again. I have no real reason to though, at least for now.

When ever I go drives up there I start on southwood. I driven it 4 times this year so far. I don’t have any reason to go up there, I just go for the roads.
