hopefully finishing the bathroom, or at least getting the sink in place and operational
I have to remove my diving board cuz the insurance company says we are not allowed to have fun.

Testing the performance of coarse walnut shells vs. play sand for surface prep. Not looking forward to it since it’s hot out.

Sadly, my fuel pump took a shit on me and I will be replacing it rather than going to Oshkosh. Sad face.

Wife is gone. I’m watching kiddos until Monday night.
Tomorrow I’m going to inlaws to cut some trees after last weeks storms. I go to my dads tonight to borrow his chain saw and move my grandpas old work out weights to my dads.
Plan for Sunday & Monday is to survive.

Possibly making a number of transmission linkage pieces and levers, because I am adapting my Ranchero’s existing column shift to a four-speed transmission(!) which is about a foot further back in the frame than the original trans, necessitating relay levers.

Back to the beach (AL Gulf Coast this time). Our family of four just went to NW FL a month ago, but as soon as we got home, the MIL put a ton of pressure on everyone to do an extended family trip so all the cousins/aunts/uncles could be together for a week. Naturally, we caved. It’s fun for the kids and I can actually do my job some of the time, so I don’t have to take the whole week off. Sort of a win-win (except for the $$$). Wish I were more excited about staying in a beachfront house with 12 people, half of which are kids...but it’ll still be awesome.
To answer your inevitable next question: Knob Creek 100 proof and a case of Founders Centennial IPA. That should get me through the first day.

Date night.
Kid’s going to my mom’s, but instead of the Ferrari we’re probably going to take this rental Dodge Challenger that we have.
It’s going to be the classiest people in the most un-classy car.

Toying with the idea of going to San Marcos tomorrow to cheer on another Oppo running a Lone Star Rallycross event / exposing my kids to grass roots racing at an early age.

It’ll probably be about 105º in San Marcos tomorrow.

Sounds like fun!

That’s far beyond anything of my skill level. Have fun!

Do you get to eat the walnuts first?

Don’t remove it and say you did.

I already took the column apart to change it from two gates to three, did that ages ago. I just hadn’t done the linkage stuff because I didn’t have the trans mounted in the car and I needed at least an idea of where the exhaust manifold would be. Kind of a Charlie Foxtrot on the left side of the engine - steering gear, exhaust, clutch bar, shifter linkage...

This is the main reason I am toying with the idea instead of making it firm. It’s 103 here in SA right now. I figure an hour up the road tomorrow will be no different. If I go I’ll be bringing a pop-up and an ice chest.

I’m installing radiators this weekend. And by radiators, I mean cast iron heating radiators in my house.
![]() 07/28/2017 at 21:10 |
|
They still make those things?

Burnham still makes many cast iron radiator styles, including the BaseRay baseboards I’m putting in my addition. I also salvaged some antique freestanding radiators, had them sandblasted, and repainted them. They look brand new.

I just remember having them in my house and schools. CLANK......CLUNK-CLUNK........CLANK!

Ours make a little bit of noise, but you can’t beat them for even heat. Way better than forced air heat. The downside is we don’t have ducts in our house so no central AC, but in Green Bay it’s not a big deal. We only use AC for about 6 weeks a year, so a good heating system is a higher priority for me.

Here in TX, we run the AC about 8 months of the year.
