My wife found a radio flyer wagon for me to rehab. Hurray!

Also, help! Never tackled something like this before. If I had to guess, I’d grab a wire brush attachment for my drill and get ride of all the rust and paint, get it down to bare metal, and repaint. If I’m smart, make a template for the logo first to repaint it.

Thoughts?

Do you have paint lined up that will match?

How about all the Parts,(if any are needed?)

Good project by the way.

Personally, I would try to keep the external paint and logo intact since it looks like a nice patina. Clean it and put a good clear coat on it, then see if you like it and try to make the inside match.

But there’s still a good chance it won’t look right, then I would start all over with the paint. So it’s a bit of a gamble with your time, I suppose.

I guess I need to figure out if I want brand new or that nice patina like you said

Good point on matching paint ahead of time. Looks like critical parts can be used though.

Thanks!

If you are going to do a full resto, there’s an Instructables for that. FWIW, you can buy vinyl decals of any of the logos from the Radio Flyer site, or stencils from Etsy or eBay.

Looks like you can get a new set of vinyl logos here. So if you strip and repainted the whole thing, you can put new logos on it. Not sure about the size tho. This was a quick search, and there may be others.

The outside, if it’s as solid as the picture, just leave it be, maybe a clear coat only. The inside just wire brush it or try a flap wheel if that won’t touch it, then treat the surface with a convertor spray and etch prime then paint a similar color to match, and maybe clear over the whole thing.

Or just wire brush the inside and rust oleum the inside with a close match and call it a day.

I did a Sears branded Radio Flyer a couple years ago in similar condition. I left the outside as-is, and for the inside I just wire brushed it, primed it, and sprayed it with bed liner paint. It turned out great.
