Media outlets seem to try their best to kill any form of commenting whatsoever.
I just noticed Motor Trend and The Star all took out their commenting sections too, CBC forcing real names, etc.

Actually this system seems easier than the last, for once. Staff is just “x’s discussions”, Community is “All replies”, and Pending lets you see the grays. Now I don’t need two steps to see the gray comments anymore. Which is nice. Also it seems if you use “Community” or “Pending” that the Show more comments button either becomes less persistent or fucks off entirely.
I’m happy with it. Provided it keeps working, of course.

having to use real names on YT didn’t last long.
i never changed mine.

Pending isn’t grays, otherwise we wouldn’t get that “Show Approved” dialog:
“The following replies are approved. To see additional replies that are pending approval, click Show Pending. Warning: These may contain graphic material.”
Either way, why the segregation... what’s the point. Basically it’s making “unapproved” discussion hard to find, that’s censorship right there.

This is kinja. Just because something is logical doesn’t mean that’s how it works. I mean, at the moment we have two reply buttons... You could be right, but I think that old button is going to disappear.
That being said I haven’t seen many grays lately so I’m not sure about that

I guess. I’m just not sure the terminology of “Staff” “Community”. Sounds like official censorship and segregation, like they are above the law or something.
I only remembered graying came along after someone posted porn or something in one of the Jezebel posts or something like that. Either way, trying to censor the internet is just... stupid. It doesn’t work.

It does seem like the last several changed to these sites are headed that direction.
Remove the text from the comment URLs so you have no idea what people have recommended. Before you were able to figure out which comment it was by looking at the notification, now you can’t. Perhaps it’s to generate more page visits, but the extra effort is not worth it. If I have eight notifications, and each one is different, I have to check out each one. Too much work.
Endless scroll is another one. You read the article, and want to scan the comments to see if your comment has already been posted, or you just want to read opinions. Next thing you know, you are two articles deep reading comments to another article. The URL changes as you scroll down, so maybe that’s another way to raise views. To me, it’s a hassle to give a page 5-6 clicks to read the comments.
Same goes for the staff/community/pending. More clicks to read something is becoming too much work. Not sure if this one generates more views, but like endless scroll, the only thing it gives us is more clicks.
That’s why I don’t visit/post here very often anymore. I can get this content anywhere. I’m here to interact with you weirdos.
While the intent of most of these changes may not have to slowly kill off commenting, it’s sure making me comment a lot less.

Yeah, I don’t like that choice of words either... but if it works, meh.
I wonder if the proliferation of the extra-long user name had anything to do with it

I’m sure they know, very, very well. lol
If anything these days on FP, I find content much, much slower than other sites on my RSS. Heck even Autoblog beat them to some things. Maybe their attitude towards “journalism” is catching up to them and sources are less willing to work with them.

made worse by the fact that alt-click to open in new tabs went away quite a while ago. (right click open in new tab still works, but, extra clicks)

don’t worry, we’re good here.

you’re an inch off but who’s counting.

I forgot about the “open in new tab” with notifications. Not sure if it’s browser-specific, but I used to be able to give each notification a new tab click, and get them all open at one. Now when you do that, it clears your notifications. I can still do it once I “view all notifications” but it’s just another click that takes me away from the page I was on.

I love a good joke, but I have republican friends/followers I would like to keep.
Shame, because Trump is quite the easy target.

I totally agree with everything you said here. Kinja’s commenting system is what brought me here, and now it’s pushing me away.

Push the mouse wheel straight down. Unless you’ve messed with the settings, it opens almost any link in a new tab.
Windows only, afaik.
Also:
- Opens new window of most programs when you click the taskbar icon.
- Closes windows if you click on the taskbar preview.
- Closes tabs.
It’s awesome, it takes away most of the accuracy requirements :)

I recommended your agreement (so you know and don’t have to click again)
