Unrelated picture because no one knows what a Pathfinder looks like, or cares. We have a rental because her car is in the shop.
The exchange:
“What is this?”
“A Pathfinder.”
“I knew that, but this is... an SUV?”
“Yeah.”
“I hate it. We’re never buying one. It’s like we’re driving a whale.”
Whelp, I guess there are no SUV purchases in our future.

I showed my girlfriend a picture of a GTI as a potential car for me to get as a daily driver. She says “What’s that a minivan, why would you want that?”
Haha I think it will take some convincing to get her to understand why I like hot hatches.
But at least she absolutely loved the Cayman and FRS that we rented, so I know she likes the right cars.

Haven’t driven one, but I’ve heard the new ones are pretty dreadful.

My girlfriend said my Ecoboost was “unnecessary” so I bought a GT. She likes it more because it’s black.

I actually own a 2014 SL tech edition, I call mine a Pathfounder.
When we were 7 passenger shopping I only tried it to cross it off my list, because of CVT...
But ended up buying it cause it had better mileage, and interior than the the Flex. Love the smooth and constant acceleration.
I had a manual awd SX4 before, so I found it huge and imposing. Now I find everything cramped compared to my Path. I had a rental 2017 SantaFe for a week and found it Tiny.

My wife has been saying the same thing for a good while. So I sez to Mabel, I sez to her “if I wanna buy a Suburban and tool around town in a whale, then you don’t have to ride in it”
I’m now looking at a VW Beetle

We just drove for nine hours in an Elantra GT, so switching over to this is rather daunting. I’m sure it’s great for people who need it, but for us, we’re just wondering why it exists.

Funny, she used to drive a New Beetle.

My wife, when we were shopping for her Impreza:
“Why does that one have all that ugly extra black plastic crap stuck on it?”

cause people like me who have more than 2 kids. who don’t like sleep, and needs something comfy and roomy with AWD for our cold snowy northern canadian winters.
It had place to put the strollers in the back with the 3rd row up.

Anyone know if this thing has any off-road capability anymore? I know the previous gen was pretty good since it was based off of the Frontier and could get 4wd. But now it just looks like another crossover for those that don’t want a minivan but do want something that has AWD as an option.
Side note, I’m currently looking at the previous gen Pathfinder as my next daily. That or the Flex. Complete opposites, but I like the fact that that gen Pathfinder can still go off road as I’ve really go the urge to go overlanding now that the kids are old enough. On the other side, the EcoBoost Flex is seven passenger, AWD, and 365hp / 350lb-ft tq. It’s a seven passenger rocketship. And most of my commute is highway miles. Hard decisions.

Because we have 3 kids and 2 dogs. Because I can put a bike rack on it and carry 4 kids plus bikes. Because it’s a lot smaller than a Suburban or Excursion or the like but can still fit the entire family plus luggage for a road trip. There are a ton of reasons why it exists. Now if you have a two person family, sure, there’s probably no need for it.

My former boss had one. He always had Nissans or infinities.
He did not like his Pathfinder. Gave him far too many problems for a new car.

My girlfriend’s dream car is a suburban. This is a 27 year old white girl who drives in city traffic to work and is disgusted with the idea of children. But needs a 5,000lb truck with seating for 8...

Had a NX200t loaner recently.
Me: Do you want to drive the NX200t for a few days instead of the Honda?
Wife: No, I’m good, that thing’s huge. You drive it.

Not sure about offroad prowess, but it does have selectable 4WD and hill descent control.
