I just don’t trust anyone. Nobody is talking about lowering costs, only who is getting covered. I love capitalism, but damnnit if it has failed by turning healthcare into extortion. Pay or die. do I think everyone deserves healthcare, no not really. I do think healthcare should be affordable instead, and I would be willing to accept socialized medicine but I don’t trust the politicians not to fuck it up. Fix the problem and don’t try to cover up a bullet wound with a band aid.

Yeah, that’s not capatilism. Capitalism is allowing competition, allowing consumers to pick and choose which products they want to buy, and where to buy them. Capitalism isn’t forcing someone to provide services regardless of their ability/intent to pay. It isn’t forcing consumers to purchase a product they have no use for, nor specifing a minimum amount of said product, nor forcing them to buy said product in their geographical area. All of the hospitals within a 45 minute drive of me have either closed, got bought out by the mega-corp hospitals, or (the lone hospital that’s still independent) stopped offering certain services to cut costs (as recently as this year). What needs to happen is to have published prices. My insurance company publishes ranges for what the various facilities cost for various procedures and it’s great. It’s an incomplete list, but good enough that you can get a good idea of who’s going to charge you out the ass. The shitty thing is they charge whatever they want, and people just accept it, and even accept the procedures and pill-pushing as necessary and just pay it. Can you imagine going to the grocery store where there were no price marked, and they charged different amounts because they could?

Just curious... if you think health care should be based on capitalism, do you think the fire department and police department should be for profit also? If you can’t afford the fee for the fire department, your house burns itself out.

Also, should we get rid of Medicare and the VA because those are government sponsored programs. Let the free market decide what seniors and veterans get health care and which don’t.

As for the VA and Medicare, those aren’t exactly a ringing endorsement for government run healthcare. Unless your idea of health care is “wait long enough, eventually they’ll die and stop bothering us”...
