And I have to say, I completely agree...

.

.

.

Because I’d buy a nice ‘14 Avalon instead! If you’re gonna go reliable — oh, sorry FP. I meant B E I G E — then you gotta go BIGLY or go home...ly. And that’s the Avalon.

This is a good take. The avalon has always been that silent, and modest, overachiever. I told my aunt to get one to replace an aging mitsubishi diamante. She fell in love with it by the end of the first week. It’s the first car she’s ever washed and waxed by hand. There was actually a hefty bit of discount on it! I forgot how much but she saved some cash on it, apparently and got it OTD for well under MSRP

The Avalon is still one of the more surprising cars I’ve ever driven. It was just a lot more... posh than I expected a Toyota to be.

If you want an unreliable FCA sedan, why not buy the one that’s already had the kinks worked out?

I would lease the shit out of a Giulia. I wanna date, not marry. If I lived closer to a dealer I would. Would it be rude to demand another Giulia as a loaner vehicle while mine is in the shop as part of my lease contract?

I do love me some Avalon though. They are very comfy and don’t require crazy maintenance. Have you ever been in a LS 460? Those things are crazy good.

I was really disappointed in graverobber’s bullshit. All that moaning about “well you should take some risks.” Yeah, but I don’t see him buying a Giulia. Asshat. some of us have to make do with one car, and can’t “risk” burning vacation days because the piece of shit doesn’t work.

you don’t get to sit there and tell other people what they should buy. Especially if you’re the typical Internet Car Asshole who whines about wanting something like the Giulia and then whines that nobody buys them. You wanted it, you fucking buy it.

Whew. I thought I was the only one clicking the “build” button for Avalon on their site. How did we get to the point where the 2018 Avalon has black wheels? I thought the Avalon’s key feature was massive speedometer numerals and false teeth bath.

The ‘16 Avalon we rented last year for a long road trip was a beautiful machine. It made the trip go by quickly, comfortably, and without drama. If ‘excitement’ means standing on the side of the highway next to your brand new less-than-2k-mile Alfa waiting for a tow truck...I’ll take ‘beige’ any day.

I got so annoyed. It’s like there are only 2 vehicles you can buy in the entire world: an Alfa that will break or the worse than death Camry. Camrys are good cars. Not exciting in normal around town driving, but good.

Well to be fair, we only got those at all because GM needed to dump some of it’s commodore production somewhere. No matter what, it was never going to replace the Impala or become the new large sedan from chevy.

The next Impala might be RWD, but given that Impala buyers don’t want that anymore I super doubt that will happen.

The R/T scat is like 90% of the Guilia Quatro for 50% of the money, minus (most of, lol) the crappy reliability issues.

Given that, I just don’t understand why Guilias are collecting dust on dealer’s lots. They should be selling like hotcakes!

This. It was only made to satisfy an export obligation to Holden. GM never needed to sell more than a couple thousand a year. Hence no marketing, etc. It would have been cancelled after 2015 if GM actually cared about its sales volume.

I’m to the point I wanting boring and reliable. I do not ever see a future that calls for anything like a Giulia. Yeah it seems fun but I would rather have something old and unreliable and pretty instead of new, unreliable and pretty.

I do like how some of the car guys running the company were able to push some otherwise impossible things through because of the sales.

“Hey, how about we have a manual option?”
“But manuals don’t sell.”
“Don... the whole car doesn’t sell. It’s not like adding a manual will make things worse.”
“Ehh...alright, fine.”
“Some color options that aren’t grey and/or black would be nice, too. How about midnite purple?”
“Whatev. Go nuts, it’s not gonna be around much longer anyway.”
“WELL IN THAT CASE, HOW ABOUT A TWIN TURBO LS7 AND AWD AND-”
“Ok, now you’re pushing it.”
“Sorry. I had to try.”

And sadly such a thing will never happen again. I’m glad the Regal GS will have a V-6, which is a bold move at Mary Barra’s GM, but I doubt you will get it in the wagon variant and we know it won’t have a stick. Better than nothing, but it doesn’t exactly fill the void of the HSV Clubsport R8 Tourer.

I think he just meant he surprised by the quality of materials because most any other new Toyota you get in is just a lot of hard plastic and sadness (sorry, Toyota. It is what it is.)

It’s probably because nobody knows what it is, where to buy one, or how reliable it will be. Several press cars have broken down, including Jalopniks. If you buy one, you’re probably going to spend an absurd amount of time driving a Fiat 500 loaner and most people in the market would rather just lease another 3 Series.
