Jesus even the Z8 was saddled with Steptronic. Ew.

Alpina’s decision. They wanted to make a luxury cruiser out of it.

They even replaced the M5's V8 with the one from a 540i

Steptronic always sounded like an event that would be put on by Skrillex featuring Omega Psi Phi fraternity.

Steptronic is a great transmission choice if you think “sport” means “achingly slow”.

Except that’s the common misconception about Alpina. Never once they said the were building sports cars. For that you go to M, not Alpina.
All they want are luxury cruisers that can run rock stable on the Autobahn.

Saw a guy at O’reillys with an E39 540i asked him if it was manual or auto, he looked at me said “Both bro” Oh ok so its auto then.
