Making a 912 using a Toyobaru engine; better or worse?

That’s not uncommon ... I started typing “Porsche Subaru” and Google auto-completed with “engine swap.”

About even. The flat engine would be less blasphemous, but with the K it’s just so easy to make big power.

You know my dad and grandpa have beaten me over the head with porsche my whole life, my dad even has an SC he bought the same month I was born. I don’t have one because maintenance is nuts from what I see. So I got a Z. I guess the pancake would be better, I do want a Vanagon with one swapped. I am not sure how to feel about the 911, I totally get the reasons but something from my family upbringing makes me cringe too. It just won’t sound right...

Yeah, the sound of the flat 6 really is part of the experience, so I do get that.

Nice idea but it’s probably overheating quite badly.

I freaking love this! When I got my 996 I emailed motorwerks racing who has been stuffing 270-400hp, Audi 1.8t engines in Porsche 944s to see if something similar were realistic for a 996. They responded with something along the lines of “interesting idea, good luck if you want to do it...”
What’s crazy is how much lighter some of the inline 4s are compared to a flat 6.
