I miss the Werdigree Era. Nothing against Patrick or anyone else, those were some golden years, at least from the readership. No Nick Denton obtrusiveness, no Kinja ruining everything. Jalopnik Gold. Just romanticizing the past a bit...I’m mostly frustrated by the fact that Kinja’s “features” are outpacing the older browsers that so many of us are stuck with. So we end up only being able to participate at “half capacity” due to all the limitations and slowdowns. Mobile works pretty flawlessly, though.

Glad to see you’re still around from time to time! I hope the family is doing well, I’m sure Bette is getting big fast. It’s crazy how much they grow in the first 1-2 years...

I feel like Jalopnik has become more ‘professional’. While going that route they’ve lost some of the spark that used to be here if you will. It really was about the cult of cars, now it’s just about cars. About leasing deals, about new ‘regular’ cars in general, about Kinja deals and about crossposts. I don’t care about any of that and I don’t remember it having a home when I came here for the first time. I still visit frequently and will continue to, but not with as much excitement as back in the day. I believe I’ve been hanging around for 8 years or so now.

I do think Torchinsky is keeping the spirit alive. I hope we can get him, or possibly another writer, to join one of the multi-day Oppo meets here in Europe. Like that last one a few weeks ago in the Austrian/Italian/Swiss Alps.
