Firebird won’t start, smoke coming from the carb.
For the last week I’ve been firing up the Firebird, letting it idle for 15-20min, then parking it again. Just getting the cobwebs out before any road tests. Took it out today for the first time, one mile to Kroger to fill the tank with top notch gas, and one mile home. Started great, ran fine.
I wanted to drive it to dinner tonight. Wouldn’t start. Noticed some white smoke coming from where a vacuum line clearly just vacated. No problem, new line put on. No go.
Tldr: worked for the last few weeks, earlier for first road test. Didn’t work tonight. White smoke from carb. Turns over, won’t fire.

Sounds like a timing issue more than a carb problem.

I’mnot an expert on carbs, but that’s typically a problem with valves/lifters not operating properly. So likely timing as Birddog mentioned.

I’m going to second checking the timing. Weird stuff like that is usually timing or valves.

I was troubleshooting a ‘carb issue’ for quite a while with a friend. We finally figured out his timing chain was shot. How long was it off the road? Does it still have the OEM nylon timing sprockets?

Was the engine warm/hot when you went to fire it up for dinner?

Well all I have to say about your carb and engine is:
