. Verizon wants to shut down its CDMA network, but it needs to move those non-smartphone customers to a new phone that supports 4G LTE.
This also means that the flip phone uses a SIM card (it will also work on GSM networks).

Well, once Canada starts killing off the older parts of its spectrum, my grandparents will have to upgrade to something like this.

And here I thought that getting rid of the CDMA network would mean that flip phones would go extinct.

Good luck, Verizon. We have like 300 cell modems out there on their CDMA network. This would be massively expensive to replace and we’re just one customer.
Didn’t AT&T succeed at turning off their TDMA network? The difference is that it wasn’t in use as long and wasn’t as embedded in everything as a result. They started the GSM move earlier than VZW, so it was also an easier transition.

They want $170 for this? If they want to save MILLIONS by shutting off CDMA these need to be free or they pay YOU for not using their data network. What a bunch of dopes.

they will though, its a $7 a month line charge and Verizon are turds about trying to get that waived.
