Why didn’t Ford just badge their Lincoln models as the Vignale line? I know a lot of the criticism of the Vignales is that they aren’t different enough from the normal Fords, which is easily solved by using the Lincoln models. It would also allow the cost of the Lincoln models to be spread to another market.

Even if they simply retooled the European plant to add some Lincoln features to the Vignale cars it may have been more distinct.

It just seems inefficient to come up with two different versions of premium Fords

...that’s like asking Honda to badge Acuras back as Hondas, or Buicks back as Chevrolets.

Simply put, it’s hard asking someone to pay BMW money for a Ford Fusion.

They’re observing the failure of American brands in Europe, especially of Cadillac which has had numerous failed relaunches in the last decades and thought NOPE. Lincoln would fail miserably in Europe.

I actually quite like the Vigniale idea. Every premium and luxury brand offers personalization options, even Opel recenty introduced the ‘Exclusiv’ program for the Insignia.

Bad analogy - Honda created Acura because US consumers were accustomed to luxury cars having a separate make. Honda sells Acuras as Hondas in their home market and a number of foreign markets.

Also, for most of GM’s history, their brands have been basically trim levels...

That’s my point, they wanted this new Vignale line but made the cars just shiny Fords and even kept the Ford badge.

Here’s the Vignale logo

Kinja'd!!!

They could have put this badge on instead of the Lincoln logo and justified the price a lot easier

Oh no, they should still be Vignale not Lincoln, just use the Lincoln designs and change the badge to Vignale

At least they look significantly different and have options not available on the Fords. They’re moving in the right direction, albeit slowly.

Ah I see. That could work out for the crossovers as those sell like hotcakes everywhere but the retooling etc would probably cost a lot of money. Bean counters would have their doubts.
