This chrome nastiness on the bottom of the Jag. Also that awful bumper thing. I think the bumper is a dealer installed thing though so that might put up more of a fight. The chrome on the bottom is sort of removing itself.
Spark plugs didn’t look awful. Not sure what the orange is but the threads smelled like gas so.... definitely running rich.
This is definitely a nice place to spend some time though. Seats are pretty trashed from age though, not sure if I want to try rejuvinating these from scratch or replace them with something from another car.
Kinda getting sad about not being able to drive the Miata. Hopefully going to be able to buy the part it needs tomorrow.

Isn’t be too scared to find out what’s behind those chrome rockers.

Probably rust. At least if I can see it I can fix it before it gets worse.

Yeah, I think door guards are stock.
The chrome may be tacky, but it is likely better than what’s underneath.

I can’t find any pictures at a glance of an XJ-S with the door guards...

I think the burnt sienna on the plugs means the plug’s heat range is too hot for the engine’s running temp.

I found a few, but different from yours (they are later cars). Perhaps a dealer installed item:
(wheelarch trim and door guards, ugh):
It definitely looks better without them, but I’d be scared to death of what lurks underneath, and hoping to everything dear that they didn’t drill holes.

Yeah, those are also waaay higher on the body and a lot thinner to boot.

Huh. That’s an interesting thought. I’ll have to take a look at what plugs are recommended for SBCs.

Or it could mean the reverse.

I’ve heartily agreed with every decision so far. Godspeed, and nice Jaaaaaaaaaaaaaag!

I don’t know why but Jags seem to attract a certain subset of people that love putting shitty chrome on things. The worst is those weird chrome wheelarch lips. Ugh.
If you can get away with it try debumpering it :) if it’s anything like my XJ40's bumpers those things weigh an absolute ton!

Orange on your plugs is often not a good thing. Are you using one of those fuel additives or octane boosters? Notice any misfires or anything? What heat range are those?

I just run regular 87 octane (E10, ethanol free is expensive as hell here). Not sure what the temperature range is on those plugs, the two I pulled were different brands entirely.

Well that’s simple. It’s a luxury brand that sells for stunningly low prices allowing people that want to be seen as wealthy to afford one. And since most people have this particular “idea” of what wealth looks like (mostly perpetuated by rap, hiphop, TV, etc) they think more bling = more rich. The same sort of new-money bling that Donald Trump loves so much.
One of the richest families in the world, the Kochs, live here in Wichita. You know what they drive daily? 3 year old Chevy Tahoe, bone stock, serviced at the dealership (where I worked at the time). Old money is old money because they were thrifty and/or ruthless. Not flashy.
End rant.
Also there is a pile of chrome wheel arch lips in my kitchen that were in the trunk. Ugh.
As for debumpering it, I considered that but then I would have no bumpers were someone to bump my car.

Well, it doesn’t look like the orange crap you can get from coolant, so there’s that.
