I looked at the image quickly and thought there was steam billowing from under the hood. Wasn’t really surprised looking at the wood around doors. Normal look for a woodie.. but now I look closer... it’s a friggin bentley frankenwagon with a woodie. No steam either

I grew up with this - the Bentley just reminded me of that. I’m not sure that’s a good thing - but I loooove that Bentley. So, I’m weird, what of it?

But luxury! TBH, though, I’m pretty sure that I could find a Chevy and do all these mods (LS swap FTW!) for a tad under $900k.
I think Fancy Kristen would approve of the Bentley.

Here, the photos for this ad were all taken by a 4 year old apparently. :0

This is more realistic - still too much $ and no wood paneling. I’d want an older one (ours was a ‘79) for $3-4k.

Not that I tried very hard, but I couldn’t find a good one with paneling. Now I want one. Rear-facing 3rd row FTW! :/

Many, many years ago Rolls-Royce/Bentley built several “shooting brake” Bentleys and Rolls-Royces for the Sultan of Brunei. The base body was that of the Silver Spirit/Bentley Eight. I’ve seen a couple (one a Bentley, the other an R-R) advertised for sale in UK classic car magazines.
They were fitted for shooting trips, with selectable 4WD in first and reverse. I seem to remember they also had wood panelling.
The Silver Spirits and Eights being more, er,
square-rigged
meant the whole estate look worked better than in the Arnage.

While trying to find pictures of the cars I talk about in my post I saw some articles that mention Mulliner but and also Jankel as firms who would undertake that kind of conversion.
The description of the Bentley
Val d’Isère (
estate) by Jankel sounds suspiciously similar to what I remember of those ads, back in the day (which did not mention Jankel at all and said it was a factory job).
Tellingly the
Val d’Isère
also had selectable 4WD in first and reverse – in fact a hydraulic system “by motors built into the front hub assemblies” with its pump driven from the transmission via a tooth belt.

Ouch, that duotone thing is long (and very much looks like a hearse, a common complaint about these conversions).
Regarding the silver Silver Spirit, I don’t think so. It looks slightly longer than the Bentley/R-R I remember – particularly that rear overhang.
The Bentley I remember best (or maybe there were more pictures of it) and it was a bit on the garish side (wood panelling!). The actual shape of the body was very pleasing though.
Some pictures, info and links here. The first photograph shows what is probably the most elegant one I’ve seen so far, rather understated.

Actually thanks to the marvels of Google I had seen that link before the PistonHeads one. That silver Bentley looks more like the R-R I remember (quite restrained, could be almost a stock model). As I mentioned before, the Bentley was not so, huh, discreet (external panelling).
The point to remember with the Sultan’s vehicles is that he rarely commissions just one, but several of them, and not necesarily identical.
Years ago I got quite a lot of info about the “Venice” 456s. Now that was a car, particularly the estate (there was also an open top one and something else I cannot remember). It was quite funny the very polite way in which Ferrari, Pininfarina and AMG did their “plausible deniability” thing regarding their work for “a certain very special customer”. AMG was best: regarding the 300 SL they just replied (also in an extremely nice way) that “we don’t do this kind of work anymore” (yeah, right).
I think barchetta.cc used to have nice pictures of the
Venice
family of cars. Cavallino also published an article on one of them, but in the quite microscopic magazine I was free-lancing for I beat them by a couple of months...
