I made an appotinment to go check this out when I get off work. I cant help it. Here are the basics:
An auto
Quattro
Has the 2 liter turbo 4
Somehow has the RS4 front facia and RS5 wheels
83,266 miles
Its listed at the dealer for $14,888. Good price? Or pass because 7 year old Audi with almost 90 thousand miles?

Cool find! Don’t know the Audi market too well but price doesn’t seem awful. B8 A4's seem to bottom out around $12-14k with that kind of mileage around me.. but they usually aren’t wagons.

Yea I’ll easily pass on a B4 sedan. A4 Avants, especially something like this, are harder to find. And I only stumbled across this because I was looking at an FiST they had.

80-120k miles are always tough because that’s when major services are due. If most of them have been done and the car’s in good shape, could be solid. Looks like aftermarket suspension, too, but could be wrong. I’d like to know more about the mods in general, since there might be other stuff you need to know beyond the cosmetic stuff.

Thats what I was thinking. Suspension does look to be aftermarket as well. That or those supposed RS5 wheels just feel the wheel wells. But im actually emailing the dealer right now going to ask about any aftermarket mods on the car.

fyi, it’s not a RS4 fascia, nor a S4. It’s the original A4 bumper with a aftermarcket lip. It’s better that way IMO.

Looks like RS4-style grille inserts (mesh vs the stock bars) plus the aftermarket lip you pointed out.

From what I saw when I looked it up it looks to be an RS4 front fascia. Either way it looks good

True! 99$ on Ebay

That is ridiculously good looking, but I would be scared of a well used audi. We got rid of our 2001 a4 at around 90k and I would not have wanted to be the second owner. I am used to BUYING cars at 90k, not having to get rid of them.

I’m the same way. Don’t really care too much about the B8 (except the S4) but man when a nice Avant s-line comes up for sale nearby I just stare at the ad for it. Don’t care that the avants are auto only, I just like them so much.

You have a good point. Mainly because you dont know if you’re going to be fine for the next 30-40 thousand miles or if everything is about to hit you. It is good looking though. And its an Avant. I couldn’t pass it up. It is good its an A4 though so repairs should be a little lighter on the wallet? Maybe? I dont know. Im not too familiar with Audis.

Thats me. I didnt go for the typical Jalop response of pass its not a manual. Its a wagon with a rare front fascia and wheels. I want it.

I am no audi expert either so its hard for me to speak on this generation. All I know is its really pretty. Id say if you drive it and it doesnt really speak to you then its a no-go. if it really is something special to drive then consider it.
Questionable reliability is only worth it when the car is REALLY compelling, and somehow i feel like an a4 wont be, even though its an avant.

My thinking of it reliability wise, from what I know ( and I could be wrong) is that the A4 is more VW than Audi so it wont hurt the wallet as much as say an A6 would. Hell or even an A5.

So I was interested in this car for a few weeks, I just have been so busy with work that I wasn’t able to get up there to look at it. (I ended up buying a ‘14 CPO allroad)
On paper, it’s a fantastic deal given the mileage and the suspension/wheels/fascia upgrades, especially since it has the S-line package.
However, autocheck indicated this car had been in an accident. I don’t know the details beyond that.
Also if you are truly interested, make sure to get a PPI. The 2009-2012 A4's with the EA888 engine had serious issues with oil consumption. Pretty much every car is affected. The fix was new pistons and pistons rings, but Audi would only cover it up to a certain age and/or mileage. If this car didn’t have the piston replacement done, walk away . The issue was addressed with B8.5 A4's and allroads.
2009-2012 also had an issue with timing chain stretch, a very expensive job to replace that can be even more expensive if it breaks.

It’s a B8, so you shouldn’t have too many troubles. The engine is a Gen 2 TSI, so not much worry there. All in all, just make sure maintenance is up to date. The transmission shift logic will tell you how it’s been driven. Oh, and find out if it’s had a carbon cleaning yet. If not, budget for one in the next 20k miles or so.

Do eet! It’s a beautiful car and the 2.0L seems like a good engine. Also those horror stories about having to take apart the front end for basic maintenance come from A6s with V6s (A6s with V6s reminds me of “Saudis in Audis”) the 4 pot surely leaves a little more room to get to stuff.
At that price, if it really starts to become a PITA you can always sell it on and come out with not too much of a loss. That was my reasoning behind getting the E61 of my dreams, which I always wanted. At the end of the day it’s just an already highly depreciated car which is a the point the depreciation curve gets flatter and flatter.
You could also get a CamCord and enjoy the Excel spreadsheet which tells you how little you spent per mile, but what’s more fun, a car you actually enjoy or a spreadsheet?

Thank. You. For. This. I will check it out be definitely check for everything you mentioned. The fact that an accident has been reported has put a nail in the coffin in it for me. But I will give it the benefit of the doubt just to see if the dealer will be up front about it and the servicing and how bad the accident was.

No problem, good luck man.

It’s a B8 RS4 grille. You posted a B7.

Gen2 EA888 has two HUGE issues that must be addressed. Oil consumption (requires new pistons and piston rings), and timing chain wear (requires revised timing chain tensioner).
Gen3 EA888 is much better if one can fit in the budget. It fixed both issues as well as a host of other smaller issues with the Gen2.

Well it sure doesn’t look like a B8 RS4, see pic

Both grilles have the eggcrate mesh pattern. That is RS style.
But the RS4 was only a B8.5 while the RS5 was available as B8 or B8.5, so it’s likely a B8 RS5 black optic grille or some replica.
