I believe the answer has to be a rental car, according to the hivemind.

The hivemind is also dumb.

If you want to put a little work in, you can get a nice higher mileage 335i for around $10-12k. Lets say you buy one for $11k, that $4k can either be used to go straight to power, and you can go single turbo (or built twins) and go for around 600whp (if you don’t really care about reliability) OR you can play it safe, spend ~$2500 going FBO with a custom tune, then spend the rest on suspension/brakes to help you control that power. You’ll still be pushing over 400whp and probably around 470wtq, but the car can still be sort of reliable and you’ll actually be able to drive it.

Excluding road legal kit cars (which are as fast as you can lighten them,) I note on autotrader that you can pick up a used C6 for just shy of 15k now. That’s a LS mo-tor on a fiberglass body. Git you one!

Submissions will be ranked based on ‘ring times (the least scientific measure, except for all the others)

There’s two big answers, and they’re definitely not a Miata - or a Mustang.

I’d say it has to be the Subaru Impreza WRX STI or Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution.

Why? They have sub-5 second 0-60 times with limited tuning, and already can outhandle just about anything in the corners. In the real world, these are the fastest things on four wheels in the right specs. Each go for $15k equivalent in my area, though I’m outside the States. Point is, you can’t really touch them for a well-rounded performance bargain.

Assuming stock, it’s probably a Z06 Corvette, a Cadillac -V, a Mustang, a Mercedes, a Porsche (maybe), or an Audi RS/S.

I would strongly recommend that nobody in their right minds purchasing the majority of these cars.

I was gonna say, $15000 buys a long ride in a real nice rental.

Stateside I don’t think you can touch an Evo VIII or IX for $15k. Evo X possibly, but that’s slower, IIRC.

Yeah, shame. Here we also get the GC8 Subarus and early Evos (including the famed VI) which can be picked up on the cheap in most cases.

The Evo X can be quick, when it comes to special editions - particularly the ridiculous 446bhp FQ440 model, though they tend to fetch higher prices of course. So earlier models are where it’s at.
