Thanks. I’m not afraid of posting a reveal, it’s just more fun to superimpose the O.C. head. I need to change over the engine harness. I dropped the transmission strainer, needlessly it turned out, and one of the bolts had a free nut on top and I had to drop the control valve to get at the nut. There was only a spring, and no gasket, above the valve body, and I hope that I got that correctly replaced. The pan gasket was $30 from Nissan. I’m taking my time on this, almost to the point of procrastination, but I cannot begin working on Rusty until I’m done with this car. I have a significant parts pile for the Vandura...

I do regret not being on as much, but have had to rebalance my use of time to stay sane, and sometimes that means being much less fun.

The “elevator summary” of the dissertation is: Trade liberalization in the 20th & 21st century has been incomplete. While tariffs have generally declined, other policies serve as trade-distorting measures which have led to “managed trade”. I argue that global capital movements and the growth in multinational firms is behind both patterns. (Then I write some econ stuff, some politics stuff, and do some data analysis.)

Wow; that’s way over my head. If you were trying to make certain complicated organic molecules attach themselves in a new and kinky way to an exotic catalyst, then I could try and follow along. But economics dizzies me. And even though I am a math teacher, I’ve never been much at data analysis, which is also ironic because administrators are always showing us test score data — which is totally irrelevant because it was from LAST F@#^%NG YEAR — and expecting us to do something based upon it. I digress.
