Isn’t that technically a header?
![]() 06/28/2017 at 22:35 |

Yes, but I have two engines and each has the header.

Looks like a turbo manifold :)

I’ll be reporting on this, but I bought the car with 68,000 miles and needing an engine for $1,700. Engine was a further $800 and I’m swapping it in my driveway.

this is the kind of news that...
turns heads

All cars have headers.
Well, completely assembled cars do at least.

I’m afraid to ask how you lunch an engine after 68K ...

No, he means (I think) isn’t a turbo manifold technically simply just a header? It’s a clever joke delivered drily enough to be easily missed.
Or I’m finding my own humor. Cool with that too, tbh.

I still laughed a bit when i saw the lip around the mating surface towards the engine, just so you know they still tried to save money there. But nice man! Some of the escorts get a legit 4-2-1 factory, but mine has the 4-1 cast piece sadly.

With the unequal length runners of that header, I bet it would have a pretty solid subaru-esque burble if you opened up the exhaust/muffler

I’m told that never changing the oil can do it...

Rusty startup is in some danger of actually happening, maybe next week.

Lip? I’m not sure what you’re referring to.

I am doing an LKQ swap and I’m hoping I wind up with a lowish-mileage car under $3k that my daughter can buy from me.

Long ago lots of leased 7 series BMWs like that b/c oil changes were $150 ... now BMW includes so they have something to CPO.

CPO?

The Corvette is getting certified as track ready at the moment and I should get it back possibly today. Maybe we can celebrate firing up the van with some Corvette homage? Oh and I need yet another oppo sticker from you if you have any left and can find them.
My schedule is pretty free for the next week and then hell after that.

Check for understanding: you are saying that BMW now provides oil changes on their newer cars so that there is more inventory available on the used side of the dealer lot?

Lease vehicles especially - if the lessee wasn’t going to take care of it, BMW would - that way they could put the car on the CPO lot when it was turned in.

Interesting. Probably the same motivation for other brands who include the scheduled service for the first year or three. I never would have considered that.
Do you work in that industry?

Did your cell phone swap

Nope. But people I know have bought used BMWs off lease that suffered from mistreatment.

What’s your industry? I’m an educator, off for the summer.

The header flange is normally a thick piece of steel, while on yours they used a thinner piece it seems, but with the 90 degree bend around the edge to strenghten it so it’ll still be able to hold a seal.

Interesting design observation that I had not noticed. Thanks for mentioning.
