I’d still take a new S class over any of these.

Why get a new S-class when you can get this used Bentley instead?!

Exactly!

The problem with Tavarish’s articles was that he suggested very high mileage exotics, often with issues, instead of normal sensible cars. Whereas someone might actually be looking at a relatively low mileage used car that’s only a tier or two above what they’re looking at new.

Mulsanne > Phantom

I never could stand how the Phantom looked for whatever reason.

I’m teasing, but I fully agree. Buying a used former luxo-barge with 200k miles when you’re pinching pennies probably isn’t the greatest idea. Warranties are really, really nice to have!

I can imagine the Mulsanne maybe having some cross-shopping, as even with that face it looks the most modern. To me, the Arnage, while classy, looks too much like its 1999 counterpart to attract someone seeking modern tech. The Phantom is a bit gauche to many people, I suspect.

I’m quite the opposite, but oh well.

I would prefer Mulsanne over the others (I rarely pick the newest from any list). But I would definitely find a green one with these wheels instead.

This is actually solid. Depending on what your priorities are—if you’re a huge fan of old-world luxury, that Mulsanne is a steal. You have $200k left over for maintenance.

If you need a luxury car that actually works for the next few years with minimal downtime, the S-class is really the logical choice. The Bentley is likely to cause you too many headaches to use as an everyday car.

Found THIS and THIS for used “newish S-Class with high mileage and in ok shape” money

Hard pass on both of those. High miles, interiors are a little rough, I don’t like black interiors and hate grey on grey with a passion, and the wheels on that Phantom are terrible.

for a couple grand more there is one with normal wheels . These were like $300-$500k cars once right?

Why would you not roll in the Roller if you could? Maintenance costs are probably, um, nontrivial, but you’ll be saving that back on depreciation vs a new anything. And an S class says “new money” and a Bentley says “flash in the pan money”, while a Phantom says “who are you to even contemplate how my illustrious ancestors acquired their fortune, peasant?”

Yeah. I saw that tan one. My only real complaint is the off-color lower body cladding, which I don’t like at all on the Phantom. For the extra money, the black one above seems much nicer.

I’d rather have a new S-class.

The miles are right on that one, but God knows what it might cost to keep it on the road.

How is the ‘09 Arnage that much more than the ‘11 Mulsanne?

Search me. Must be a dealer who is playing up the low mileage and exclusivity of the 1-of-150 Final Series.

If every Rolls in existence simultaneously ceased to exist I don’t think we’d lose anything. The S-Class has a way better interior anyway.

In my dreams, when I’m a rapper, I am driving an Arnage. I love this car. It’s what made be lust after Bentley’s in my 20s

You’re not wrong. The Mulsanne and Arnage are both great but you could also get this:

And an S65 just seems a little more fun

Even budget options (S8, Phaeton, E38 V12, Jag XJs, Early Lexus LSs, older S-Klasses, old Rollers and Bentleys etc) would be classier. They’d probably make you look ‘less rich’, but beats this steering wheel any day:
