Sleeper build. Original case stickers included. USB 3.0 3.5" front panel spray painted (Rustoleum Najavo white)

Kinja'd!!!

Snipped a piece of metal around the power supply area, like many of you previously suggested. Unfortunately I scratched a bit of the case in the process but I sanded the scratches down a bit so they’re not too bad. The rear I/O shield was a bit too thick; bear in mind this is a Dell case.

Kinja'd!!!

Genuine Windows 98 product key embedded in UEFI side panel.

Kinja'd!!!

The guts. Fits a fullsize NVIDIA GTX770 fine.

Kinja'd!!!

Close up of the video card.

Kinja'd!!!

Not too much work to cram everything in there. Still has some room to work with.

Kinja'd!!!

Powered on. Hard drive indicator works too.

Kinja'd!!!

Speccy... you can see it runs pretty cool and surprisingly quiet.

Kinja'd!!!

dat cat (not mine, just catsitting for a buddy)

That’s awesome! I’m guessing all of the buttons and whatnot still work as intended?

Everything works perfectly. It’s amazing cause the case is nearly 20 years old

I like it. Just need to take the core i7 sticker off the front and leave the Pentium. Maybe put the i7 inside the case.

Wow, that is pretty good. Doesn’t seem like its yellowed too much as well. That seems to be the main thing that gets older computer cases and whatnot.

If I may ask, how much was the whole build?

Just don’t turn off the traction control until you know what you’re doing.

Around $800-something, but I built it over a year ago with a Thermaltake case. Even with this case and added GPU everything cost less than a thousand total.

Brilliant. I have an old ATX case with a 400w power supply and a 750gb drive etc which I could use to build a secondary system. It would be slower than my present one but it would also be where I can repurpose 2gb of Radeon graphics. I think you’ve encouraged me to shop motherboards and chips.

DO IT! Keep me posted. What case?

This is what mine looks like. Under the hood is 2 quad core Xeons, 64GB of RAM, and dual 7970's. It was the bees knees when I built it back in 2012, but now its just the knees.

I think it was by In Win and about 15 yrs old. Has an AMD Athlon 2800+ processor in it now with an MSI motherboard. Was from about 2001-02.

How does the case cope with it being under load? Temps/noise

Temps are fine, around 60C full load. Noise is near silent at idle but you can hear the fans working at full load. But it’s not bad at all.

Nice setup! But please, use an actual saw next time you cut a case, looks like you bent it until it broke

They are often on sale on amazon these days I think.
I have a case (with broken innards) I don’t wanna dispose of because I want to do something similar badly, but have no actual use for a desktop pc.

Just needs 5 1/4 - 3 1/2 floppy drives for aesthetics.

Ooooooooooooh I like this!! I think I’ll be building my own PC soon since the PC we built is no longer a shared one. Thinking either a clear case or taking an old case and turning it into a sleeper. :)

DO A SLEEPER BUILD!

fun fact, you can also search for mATX older cases, like late 90s/early 2000s Compaq Presarios and HP Pavilions

One more query from you! How did you remove the Dell board? I don’t see any screws, but maybe some weird clip things?

There’s a black screw on the rear outside of the case by the PCI slots, unscrew that and the whole mobo should pop out. It’s a little metal bracket
