I am now having a beer that I feel that I earned. After a difficult week, this was a welcome success.

I once spent a blizzard outside of the UN in the bar with a human rights lawyer.

By the end, I offered him a cigarette—he had quit smoking and was in his 60s—he took one and said “well, fuck it, life doesn’t really matter that much, does it?” It was probably the most depressing experience of my life.

I remember reading your first post and thinking about all that cattle. In a former life I used to lend against cattle and I had one deal going South on me and I lived in fear of how the fuck was I going to repo or offload all those cows. Glad you made things right with your client and as a banker I’m glad you didn’t make the lenders job hell. Enjoy the beer! Well deserved.
