too bad it’s not an ‘89 or ‘90, because GM actually did this:

That dealer is here in Franklin and is weird AF. They get some strange shit and really crank the prices on it.

And it’s a 3.4, not even a 3.8. At least you could supercharge the 3.8 easily if you wanted to... That 3.4 was a dog.

Re: steering wheel buttons - my neighbor had a late 80's 6000STE - that had even more steering wheel buttons I think. It also had a physical EQ on the radio, each slider had it’s own light. It was crazy! The dash was seriously button city. I haven’t been able to find a good picture of one. It was also AWD - possibly one of the most gadgety cars out of GM in the era.

IIRC the ASC/McLaren was auto-only. You could, however, get the 3400 with a manual which made a very respectable 205hp and 210lb*ft of torque. Also available in the Chevy Lumina Z34 coupe, which did an impressive 7.5 seconds to 60 and .9g skidpad in 1990. Unfortunately the Getrag is a complete pile and when it breaks you are SCREWED. Likewise, the 3400 is wedged into the engine bay and is 3000GT VR-4 levels of obnoxious to work on.

Not really... the 3400 DOHC made the same power as the Series II Buick 3800 five years before it came out, and with .2 liters less displacement. It was an impressive little engine and saw continued use through 2006 or so, I think. Much less impressive then but it was a hell of a thing in 1990 and the Lumina/Grand Prix with a 3400 would hit 60 in 7.5 seconds. Not slow by 1990s standards.

i have a liking for the 3400. However I’ve never had one go bad on me (hence why I like it) to need to work on them

er, no, it was ASC/McLaren, which is not the same as the folks making supercars in England.

I think these are good looking cars, sue me.

But I will always hate these for 3 reasons:

1. Killed the 3.8L Turbo, which was an amazing engine for its time. If GM had kept developing turbo technology the 90's and 00's would have been a lot better for them.

2. Roger Smith was piece a shit and I’d take a piss on his grave if i could find it. He meddled far to much with GM10 (W-body) and it ended up being a crappy car, that was over cost and late to market.

3. The FWD W-platform killed the RWD G-body and stayed in production for eons.

My grandfather had a red one of these when I was an infant. I think he may have bought it new (Don’t quote me). My aunt killed it somehow. Yes, it was the Petty edition.
