Save for an electric fan to try (and fail) at combatting flathead overheating, this thing is a time capsule.
My afternoon is going to consist of figuring out what it’s going to take to give this thing a more modern smallblock V8 (can go Chevy, but would prefer to stick with Ford), an automatic (currently 3sp column shift with Borg electric overdrive), 6V to 12V conversion, power steering and brakes, while attempting to modify as little as possible of the body.
This thing should be a riot once it’s done.

A friend of mine just recently picked up a ‘48 with a 390, C6, and 9 inch rear end. It’s been converted to 12v as well.
These are awesome cars. Good luck with it.

Windsor Fords, at least the 260/289/302 block, are pretty compact so should fit pretty well. Something like a Mod motor or Coyote is going to be an issue because of the width. Of course there’s always a nice 312 Thunderbird Special!

Sounds like you need a donor basketcase 5.0L Mustang, or a done-for Crown Vic.

Gorgeous car. My vote is for an LS, turbo 400, and a 9 inch rear.

Unfortunately the customer never proceeded with the project. I think he slightly underestimated the expense of replacing/upgrading the powertrain/steering/braking/electrical systems.
Man, seeing that picture makes me ready for spring/summer though.
