ooops. Cool to see a 1:2 scale jet, but man...gotta use better glue or something, it took a little sideslip at low speeds to tear this thing apart.

man, that’s tough. I do R/C boats, and it’s a bummer to watch someone’s hard work get destroyed. about 6 years ago, a guy built a 1/8 scale nitro model of the ‘68 Miss Bardahl “Checkerboard Comet” like this one:

Kinja'd!!!

it was dressed to the nines, the checkerboard pattern was all through hand-masking and painting, and the clearcoat was glass smooth.

First race out, he goes dead right in front of another boat and it gets creamed.

can you custom build hulls? I need a R/C boat with a hole to run a line down through the middle of the haul into the water..

What are these usually made of? Looks like the tail fin failed first.

The destruction started with the rudder folding over at the fuselage. From there, additional side loading tore the whole thing apart. In one frame, there’s a clear view into the fuselage and it looks like the entire plane was made from balsa. I think it wasn’t the glue, it was a poor choice of building materials.

Are we sure that wasn’t just someone with a shotgun?

I’ve never delved into boats, but I’ve had a few planes that were total losses. The worst was the one that lost radio contact and augered in under full power. The only body parts left were the tail and wingtips. Everything else was turned into splinters. I was lucky that the radio gear was well protected, but the engine never ran again.

This r/c Gripen is (was?) only slightly smaller than Iran’s new “stealth” fighter. Hopefully the 1:1 version has a stronger airframe..

Bigger size bigger forces.

Although a pretty good example of why aerospace engineering is so rigorous/expensive. When things go wrong, they go really wrong really fast.

There was someone on the ground with a half-scale SA-21 launcher.

I think you mean stealth “fighter” as its clearly stealth...I mean no pilot will EVER see one one in person...its the fight that will be missing.

There are two types of R/C planes: those that have crashed and those that are about to.

Still, that is heartbreaking to watch; dozens, if not hundreds of hours to build, a blink of an eye to destroy.
