XTS will be dying. But the fact that these both exist WILL make for some fun Craigslist ads...

Johan de Nysschen is convinced that one of the keys to turning around a product line is to change from one incomprehensible model designation to another. ‘s what he did at Infiniti before going over to Cadillac.

I’m still bothered by the Toyota CHR when Honda has the CRV and HRV

It was a bad idea at Infiniti and it’s a bad one for Cadillac, IMHO.

I always thought that the XT5 was like an XTS badge but the S has a little more attitude so it’s a little more extreme, more sassy of an S, and it turned into a 5.
If they were both XTSes, the XTS would be an “XTS” and the XT5 would be read like “XT-ESSSSSSSSSSS -Italian hand meme here-“

Can you now see the harder corners on the 5? Jeez you people

Kinda like the Chevy Volt and Bolt , which have to be enunciated extra-clearly in conversation.

Respectfully, if you really need a “badge” to differentiate between a large 4-door sedan and a mid-size SUV/ Crossover, then you may have a bigger challenge to address.
To quote that famous line from the 1948 classic movie “ The Treasures of the Sierra Madre ”...
“Badges? We don’t need no stink’s Badges!”

The problem is that when you have to refer to it as the “smaller SUV” to avoid confusion, you might as well save the money that was wasted on marketing and the shiny badges.
