I’m guessing it had some production flaws, or the transport truck crashed. My Dad used to deliver for UPS, and one of his stops was the Toyota engine manufacturing plant in Huntsville, AL. One day he saw a bunch of new V8's in a pile outside, ready to be scrapped. He asked, and they told him the transport truck got into a small accident and the engines had to be written off. Perfectly fine 5.7's, just written off.
