Careful... They have malevolent intent like cats, but are 10x smarter, sneakier and as HondaBro said, “They have opposable thumbs.”

I love raccoons and have raised several who were orphaned. Depends on what part of the country you are in but right about now the yougsters are getting out of their nests (with their mothers) here in MICH. Rabies is not that common in them but you generally do not see them during the day. Early morning and evening you might spot them but they really are nocturnal.
And yes, think of an animal with the best attributes of a cat and a dog, but with opposable thumbs.
If you want to give them healthy food, cat food or dog food is good. But they LOVE fruit (cherries, grapes and so on). Some people give them marsh mallows but I suspect the high sugar content is not good for them.

Don’t feed it! These things are pure evil. Death is too good for them.
They’re probably an invasive species, too, unless you live in like Florida or somewhere nearby in the Deep South.

He is not your friend, he is a wild animal that will quickly turn on you and your pets.
Source - my neighbor feeds (fed) racoons and they have killed a cat of mine. This was not a small kitten mind you, but a 22 pound tomcat who killed full grown rabbits and squirrels. He did end up killing the coon that got him, it was an infection from the filthy animal that ended the poor guy.
-Sorry, I don’t like raccoons (for good reason) and trap them when they show up. Matter of fact I found out my neighbor was feeding them again this spring...

Raccoons would come on our deck when I was growing up, I like them. It would be cool to take care of some. I saw a thing on TV with a guy that had some and they had ripped into the walls and made dens, they are smart and not afraid to mess shit up!
