My grandfather’s new car. BMW 440i xDrive with a six speed. Looks really good with the M package.

His beloved E46 M3 developed an issue with the VANOS system which simply cost too much to repair so he replaced it with this.

This one has it. I believe it is a 2017 but it may be a 2016.

Such a good looking car. BMW has been on fire lately.

I would still personally go for a 2 series but the 4 looks properly mean with the M package.

I know they’ve worked hard, but it’s still weird to me when old people have very nice cars. Maybe it’s from experience, but a 2007 Chevy even seems very new for an older person’s car. Congrats on his purchase, though! An old man that comes to my work has a beautiful red 4-Series. It might be an M4.

That is a very handsome car and I bet it’s great to drive, but I wish they called it the “sport” package or something instead of utterly diluting the “M” designation.

It makes sense that it is called the M package because it pulls cues from the M cars. They do a similar thing with the JCW appearance package on the Minis.

To be fair, immediately after commenting I did the same thing. But here’s the good news: We all picked different color cars (i picked red.) So...you know...we didn’t do the EXACT same thing.

I don’t remember picking the color, I was too busy with the 100 clicks it took to find the damn transmission options.

This is like the perfect spec. I’m pretty sure I built one just like this on the configuration once. What color is the inside? My dream 4-series is black outside with the red sport seats.

It has the black leather interior.

I know what it means, and it’s asinine. It doesn’t “make sense” except from a perspective of short-term stock prices. It was not that long ago that “M” literally meant that the Motorsport division had a hand in engineering the car. “Drawing design cues from” is very much not the same thing. Also, this isn’t just “get off my lawn” stuff: from a trademark perspective it’s almost by definition detrimental to dilute the M brand this way: If you take away the real distinction that makes a unique brand desirable, you may bump sales in the short term but you destroy the difference that made it valuable in the first place.
