This would be enough to turn me claustrophobic. Pretty sure I wouldn’t need to carry any ballast what with all the extra batteries I would be carrying to make absofuckinglutely sure none of my flashlights died on me. Plus there would probably be a few hundred pounds of extra flashlights too.

It’s not like anything bad has ever happened while caving.
HFV has no HFV. But somehow has 2 motorcycles

I thought the screen grab in the thumbnail was from a video game.

The story about diving into Devil’s hole always makes me short of breath.

For years my sister was a caver down in Carlsbad. She mapped a good portion of the Bottomless Pit. We’d go down to visit and she’d take us out in one of her Suzuki Samurais and we’d go to some cave out somewhere, trudge around in it and have a good ol’ time
I’m deathly claustrophobic now (not due to the caving). Sucks because I remember that being such a fun thing too

Wow, I just spent a good portion of time reading all of that. I was totally into it until the end, when I realized I’d been had, like The Blair Witch Project all over again.

so was it just some kids creative writing project? or is there some basis in reality? its a good story no doubt. just kind of wish it had some kind of dumb ending. no matter what it was. like they found a cartel manufacturing lab, and got offed......

It was absolutely an excellent story that had me 100%, until near the end when they all meet up and instantly agree to return one last time, and then the whole “Everyone please know I will make it. Be at peace. I must conquer this cave.” Blah blah blah, that’s when I knew I’d been had. Then the “cliffhanger” ending when clicking “Next page” sealed the deal.
The thought had crossed my mind halfway through the story, but it all seemed perfectly real, especially with the pictures. Ah well, an hour and a half I’ll never get back.

I could never go caving because:
a) cold, wet, dirty
b) claustrophobic
c) I would be eaten by some long-dormant ancient evil

I’m with you. I have this fear of getting stuck in a cave upside down and slowly dying. Fuck that shit. I’ll stick to open reefs...

No. Not only no, but Hell No. I’m not exactly claustrophobic, but I have an intense fear of drowning.
