Thanks to the front page, I can now get back to my weekend.

@1:14 in this video explains the wall. They apparently have started this project, and the wall is supposed to protect Monaco’s precious residents from the sound of the dredging.

It has nothing to do with safety, wind, prying eyes from boats, or better TV.

WTF is this?

I almost didn’t catch it on the quali broadcast because the mural worked very well. What is this wall for?

I thought I was crazy, and just hadn’t noticed it before. So I started digging through Motorsport.com archive. This is the first year for it.

This is what’s confusing to me about it.

It doesn’t look strong enough to be a barrier. If it is, why is it taller beyond the circuit?

It can’t be for noise because there’s no one out in the sea to complain.

I thought maybe they were constructing something behind it, and put up the wall and the mural to make it look on TV, but that still doesn’t explain why they continued it beyond the circuit well past the grandstand.

Here’s a lap without the wall: (@1:26) !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

Maybe they did it to prevent rich people without tickets from watching the race, but seeing the prices they pay to have their boat there that doesn’t make sense.

All I can think of is maybe they thought it would look better on TV.

And it goes way back past the grand stands - that is bizarre. Maybe an additional security component against baddies approaching from the water?

Now that I have watched in car footage with and without, you might be right. The horizon is below the barrier so you can’t see the water.

Did they fucking draw in water so you could see the sea on TV?

Yo dog, I heard you like to see the sea on TV so we drew the sea by the sea so you could see the sea on TV

I think they are dredging that area, so they use that to hide the ugly dredge boats.

Does anyone have any photos to back that up?

They are placing big rocks into the water, to build a stronger seabed.

Edit: in the first picture you can see the barge.

That’s a good catch. I watched quali and didn’t notice it. I’d be willing to bet it’s all for TV.

Simple, it’s to prevent debris from crashes to get into the ocean.

Ouch. All those people who paid a premium for a sea view are going to be royally pi55ed at having these massive building put right in front of theirs.

Reclaiming land from the sea is one thing but these massive buildings blocking all the views from lower and similar sized buildings to the rear.

False. It’s to protect the fish from the really loud F1 cars and the greasy French.

Sure is nice to be rich, no one builds a special wall to protect my broke ass from construction noise.
