The classic Apple air vent mount dislodged one of the things in the AC vent, and the window ones are too noisy on bumpy roads, so most are out. I’m looking for the least obtrusive, less taxi driver/ubery one possible. I want something that makes the phone look like it is floating on the dash.

I went with this one.

I use a RokForm case and magnetic car mount. The cases are great, I’ve used them since 2011 and I have never had a phone break in one. If you don’t want the case I think they have a thing that sticks the magnet on the back of your phone now.
Real easy to put on and remove, just like picking your phone up off of a table except it’s vertical on your dash.

I’ve had great luck with magnetic CD mounts:

This is the one I use
(iottie)
Can’t say its faultless but its been very durable and the suction has been rock solid, even after days on rocky dusty trails.

Your pocket

Not this one:
Sucks for all sorts of reason, but mostly because it bounces around.
I previously had the official HTC mount for my HTC One, which was great, but HTC stopped offering those after the M8. I’m really surprised that even high volume sellers like the iPhone don’t get a good device specific mount though.

Pretty much this but a clip Chinese Knockoff version of it for me:

I don’t think I can use Waze from my pocket.
![]() 05/25/2017 at 18:39 |

That looks like a lot of creaky plastic moving parts.

The suction cup is quite good, but the rest is pretty flawed. I’ve given up on mine, and have ordered something else to try.

there is probably better, but this works for me.

My car came equipped with a genuine M Performance phone nook.

Ram mount X-Grip. I work in the oilfield and no other phone mount shakes less than this one.
![]() 05/25/2017 at 18:43 |

it creaks a tiny bit, but like I said, its pretty solid over some crazy trails.

I suspect the non-charging model is better, both because it is lighter, and because it doesn’t shine a bright blue charging light in your face while you are trying to drive at night.

The Variant has a phone nook like that, but I found that looking down at the phone is less than ideal.

Oh yeah mine are both the non charging ones

As long as your car has an appropriately placed air vent that you don’t move around often, the Kenu Airframe is by far the best mount I’ve ever used. Super compact, simple, stays in place, super easy to get your phone in and out, cheap. Can’t be beat. Has worked great on any BMW and non-round vent Audi I’ve tried.
![]() 05/25/2017 at 19:03 |

Yeah, that’s the one that dislodged the air vent.

What’s the point of these? Why can’t your phone stay in your pocket or bag?...I just hate how tacky these clips and gps clips look. Never seemed to have a need to see my phone while driving.

I use one of these too, made by aukey

Mine broke my driver side air vent, it dislodged one of the lateral vent things. It’s one of the big bulky ones.
![]() 05/25/2017 at 19:24 |

Same here, dislodged one of the lateral vent things on the Passat. Why I’m looking at different ones now.

I love mine! It has my car on it. Check out the site. It is a collapsing attachment for your phone. Additional car attachment. It has made holding my phone much nicer, works as a stand, adds a little flair, and holds my phone in the car.

Those magnet ones are probably your best bet.
Window ones are illegal here, I’m not sure about your country though haha

Bluetooth.

Got a window one, those creak and rattle like hell. The Passat’s dashboard rattle I can stand, barely. Additional rattles, no.

Bluetooth? Am I supposed to guess where the speed-traps are by voice?
![]() 05/25/2017 at 19:43 |
|
If you are worried about speed traps you are going too fast yet still too slow....you are going fast enough to attract attention but slow enough they will actually try to pull you over.

But DRIVING DISTRACTIONS
WHEN I DRIVE I WEAR THESE
![]() 05/25/2017 at 19:46 |

No pulling over here, just automated speed cameras at fixed positions.
Also, you must be Dora the Explorer’s Map friend if you never use the aid of navigation apps and the sort.
![]() 05/25/2017 at 19:48 |
|
Oh then the only answer is move....and if they are at fixed positions why do you need the screen they are always in the same spot.
![]() 05/25/2017 at 19:51 |
|
Because I don’t know the position of every single one of them on a city with 36 million people.
![]() 05/25/2017 at 19:55 |
|
Their positions are posted online somewhere. Sounds like laziness to me...then you put these ugly things on your dash. I’m memorized every turn on a 22-mile mountain road I drive all the time.....speed traps can’t be that hard.
![]() 05/25/2017 at 19:59 |
|
Do you really think I can memorise the exact place of 925 speed traps on a city larger than NYC?
![]() 05/25/2017 at 20:26 |
|
you only need to know the ones you drive past....i dont know every turn on all the roads here just the ones i drive
![]() 05/25/2017 at 20:29 |

Thank you for proving my point. I know the roads I drive on, when I have to go somewhere I don’t know, I use Waze. Glad you finally understood.

+1. They’re pricey, but worth it IMO. It’s more stable and secure than anything else I’ve tried so far (especially for large phones) and all the modular pieces are nice for building out something that will work well for any application. For my Outback, I put the adhesive mount to use in the cubby pictured below because I never found a good use for it (too small + gets hot when closed). Now I have a phone mount that doesn’t block any part of the windshield, vent, stereo, etc.

Still not worth having one of this POS plastic warts on your dash....get google glasses or a heads up display anything....hell put in a deck with android auto, or apple car whatever.....it’s worth it not to have one of these warts.
![]() 05/25/2017 at 23:24 |

Also why would anyone live in a place with these speed camera, they can only exist if we put up with them.
![]() 05/26/2017 at 08:23 |

If the top of your dashboard is fairly flat I highly recommend this one.
I have one in my Tahoe and it is perfect. It’s a but chunky but it is all soft material and doesn’t make any noise. Plus once you get the hang of it you can insert and remove your phone one handed.

My car has a nice little feature. Flip open the pocket/ashtray door and between it and the shift boot, it nicely holds my shitty LG G Vista, and I have a short USB plug going to the charger above it on the right.
So far no amount of hoonage has dislodged it, but I’m afraid if I DO get in an crash, it will go a-flyin.

Another vote here for this one. The metal plate fits under my Note 4's removable cover and is very sturdy. Strong magnet. Two different sized slits for thick and thin vent slats. All for $7 on Amazon.
